There you have it.

A Z64 with a 4GB HDD.

Plenty of space for all the "homebrew" games you could ever want. :-)

This is a more recent mod. I did this nearly a year after the initial HDD mod (which is why this picture is bigger - I have a better camera now).

Here you can see the internals of the Z64.

The HDD rack is lifted up and you can see the copper heatsinks that I fitted to promote more effective heat dissipation.

The Z64 usually uses a 250MB Zip drive.

I have moified mine with a non-standard BIOS that supports a hard drive.

If you use a normal PC HDD, you need a dual voltage power supply (+5 & +12v) - I used a laptop HDD which only needs +5v, so it can run with the Z64's normal power hookups.

I put the HDD in a removable rack (which is exactly the same size as the stadard Zip250 drive ;-)

The IDE interface is different (less pins on the laptop HDD rack) so I had to fit an adaptor as well.

I have an identical rack in my PC to I can plug the Z64's HDD into it to edit content.

I put 3mm rubber feet on the bottom of the Z64 to give it extra clearance over the N64, for cooling purposes.
