Half-way along the lonely Bilsdale valley lies the hamlet of Chop Gate, its one of those strange names that offer no immediate clue to its origins particularly as the "Gate" bit is pronounced "Yat". Beyond the simple attractiveness of its situation it is an unremarkable habitation and as far as I know has not been burdened by the turbulances of history. For long generations its sons and daughters have lived-out peaceable lives with neither drama nor celebrity, pretty much like us lot really! We have met at up at Chop Gate's premier destination, the excellent welcoming Buck Inn where we can camp free of charge, an advantage soon diminished by expenditures in the bar! Thank you Wolfgang.
