The Prescott House is an historically listed brick Colonial building originally built in 1905 on 2.3 acres at the top of Helen Hill in a very peaceful and scenic setting in Saranac Lake. 151

One room shack on Tinderry Rd between Michelago and Bredbo, NSW. Ideal for isolation conditions. All modern facilities, running water (down at the creek) and wildlife sightings (wombat burrow under front veranda).

If you do visit NZ you will probably find accommodations better than this but I wondered if this one could be specially for photographers to stay in since it has such "character". It seems to be air conditioned ready for the fierce summer heat we might get but I wouldn't recommend it for winter as it is far from the ski fields. Hope your week is going more seriously than mine :) Please note the album it is in.

Friends have stayed in this old lighthouse. I enjoy how it looks quite model like. Might have to find a hill above it to take a tilt shift photo. Add that to the list of pics yet to get. Hee hee. Hope you're all having a great week.

On our way north at a place called Cheviot, North Canterbury. Gary the cook made a stunning dinner for us after a long day in the hybrid car.

Sorry you will have to put up with my boring holiday shots for a while now we are home. Omicron has reached our city after 18 months avoiding covid here. Most people are wearing masks and we are about 95% vaccinated which should help. Stay safe!

Picking the perfect travel companions for a photographic expedition can be a somewhat tricky business. That amusingly sarcastic friend, who seems perfect in the pub after a few beers, may not seem quite so funny at 4am when you’ve forgotten your gloves and your fingers are turning black in the minus 12 degree air. And that really enthusiastic friend who never seems to stop smiling no matter what- how can people possibly be so happy? - well, you’d harbour some pretty dark thoughts after 48hrs of undiluted positivity, right? And so, given all this, I count myself very lucky to have been in Norway recently with these fantastically eccentric and entertaining friends. Carefully selected by being the only ones who would go with me.

Costas.

Very clever. A professor of something that I don’t understand. Tried to unlock his IPhone using fingerprint recognition whist wearing a pair of gloves and looked confused when it wouldn’t open. Prone to sudden and unexpected bouts of erratic high speed driving in tunnels. Has a corner just outside Leknes named after him following a bowel loosening moment on the snow covered road. Spent 20 minutes trying to start our hybrid hire car before realising that it was a hybrid and therefore had no engine noise.

Dave.

Insists on doing a 37 shot vertical pano for everything. Even when he does weddings. Has a frankly disconcerting habit of sticking his fingers in your ears at every opportunity. Wanders around the Air BnB all night in his underwear drinking tea and muttering. Very good at Greek dancing if you ply him with enough alcohol.

Brian.

Has a ponytail. Asked me if I wanted a hand as I struggled back up a steep slope and then stood there clapping when I said yes. This wasn’t the type of hand I envisaged.

Anne.

From the deep south of America. Talks funny but understandable when speaking slowly. Requires a separate hire car to transport her luggage. Great cook. And photographer. Takes 30 minutes to put her boots on each morning.

And myself.

Not clever. Colourful vocabulary. Repeatedly tries to exit cars while still wearing a seatbelt. Thought the crackling of the malfunctioning intercom on the flight to Oslo was rain beating down on the fuselage. Despite being above the clouds. Easy target for the others to pick on.

Thank you, my dear friends for such a memorable trip.

My first and only trip to Europe. It was in June 2016. I stayed in one of flats on this building. The 7 days I spent here is one of my nicest memories. I loved the city although- I was there for work . Didn’t see the whole city . Loved the neighbourhood, so calm and quiet.

The Hollywood Tower Hotel is more than happy to help you if you drop in.

Would you stay here? If it had an open fire I would ...
