My friend John Reynolds found a Black Phoebe today. A great week for Metro Vancouver first a Sage Thrasher, then a Great-tailed Grackle and now a Black Phoebe! What's next?
The Black Phoebe is the 23rd record for the province of BC.

"In the early 1930s, Will Rogers was the most popular and highest paid actor in Hollywood. From his start in vaudeville theater with a trick roping act, he rose to world-wide fame as a columnist, philosopher, radio personality, and movie star. During the 1920s, he bought land in Santa Monica, where he developed a ranch. Eventually, Will Rogers owned 186 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in what is now known as Pacific Palisades. ..."

BLPH great find by Mike McGrenere at this location,
always a great find ...but especially at this time of the year
Initially it was though most likely the bird that was intermittently sighted at Maber Flats earlier this season ...BUT
on Dec 9th there was photo doc at the 2 sites at the same time
So there were (are?) 2 BLPH wintering in Greater Victoria at the same time
The one at Maber Flats is sighted very intermittently ..where as the other has been nicely consistent and continues to be sighted up to Jan 24th (yesterday at time of predawn Flickr posting on 25th)

After seeing photos (online) of Redwing in Europe photographed on the ground (behaving like American Robins) i had it in mind to try to get a shot of this "Victoria bird" on the ground this season
Earlier this year i had seen it on the ground rummaging in the leaf litter (like a Varied Thrush) but no clear views for photos.
This particular morning after being perched higher up , it flew down & paused on a very low hanging Red Cedar Tree branch momentarily before dropping to the ground.
Excitedly i managed to get this shot.
woot a treat!.
Thanks to AnnN and the mighty Gatten for help
Later in the day i also enjoyed the recent North American vagrant to Victoria Area - BLPH..another JG find
DSCN1176
also to keep my bird nerd certification in good standing, i will admit that i was happy to now have seen this Redwing in 5 months
my sightings for this bird are as follows

January 7, 2016 (2 sightings/locations)
February 11, 2017

A drab-looking sky hangs over South Florida on the morning of November 2, 2023, as I hold my ground deep in the weeds by Control Point HARDY at Miami Gardens, FL; reports of a southbound CSX freight move on the RTA corridor in daylight had yet again prompted me to venture out to take my stake in documenting it. As with any outing to the RTA, TriRail commuter traffic would put some pixels to use before M45301 would show.
TriRail P62302 would show itself first, shooting southbound on track 2 under HARDY’s south signal gantry at 12:31. A crusted #TRCX823 [BLPH], having been victim to poor maintenance to its paint job for nine years, takes charge of its three-car BBL set towards its next station stop at Golden Glades, destined to terminate at the Miami Intermodal Center. Hopefully in due time, it’ll receive the new TriRail colors along with the rest of the fleet… For now, the weather compliments its crummy look.

BLPH great find by Mike McGrenere at this location(Dec 1st 2020),
always a great find ...but especially continuing on through the season..at this time of the year
The first special livery (U-Fly Alliance) of Hong Kong Express A320 was departing from the runway 07R.
The new Hong Kong Airlines livery (which is also the new livery for the Hainan Air Group) looks great, very posh and stylish.
This is one scheme that in my opinion is hard to top!
This was an interesting nest. Earlier in the spring, I saw it on the side of an old building at the Malakoff Diggin's State Park. There were spider webs blocking the entrance so that I thought it was last year's nest. I have checked it twice since and finally on the third time, I saw these three nestlings inside with mom and dad coming in regularly to feed them. The spider webs were still intact. Malakoff Diggins' State Park, Relief Hill Rd, Nevada Co, California on 30 May 2017.
