This is one of 15 or so old postcards of Bellerive FCJ Convent and School - now named Bellerive FCJ Catholic College - which I'm putting up on Flickr. Its history is among the most interesting among the Liverpool schools. A Liverpool FCJ school was established in 1844 as part of a mission begun by the founder of the religious order of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ), the young French widow, Marie Madeleine d"Houët. Central to her mission was service to the underprivileged, and to girls and women.
The postcards here show the physical environment of the school on the Princes Park site as it was in the first three decades of the 20th century. However, when the Liverpool FCJ school first opened as a boarding establishment for the poor of the city, it was located at 3 St George's Square. In 1896 the order bought Bellerive in Princes Park and this building became the hub around which other large houses on the Park were taken over by the order as the school expanded. Culmore was bought in 1906 and Silvermere in 1922, to accommodate flourishing Junior and Senior departments. The school continued its physical expansion in the second half of the last century, buying other buildings and investing in new ones. But this period isn't covered by these cards.
Today the school continues as a RC girls' school, with some boys admitted to the sixth form. It has special expertise in the Science, Maths, Computing and Applied Learning curriculum areas and delivers good academic results overall.
Although, when you're this big and tall, perhaps putting your best foot, er root, forward is not really necessary...

Despite with the size of a whiff of a bakery (even by Hong Kong the Litttle SAR standard), Hoover has been the kingpin of good old-fashioned bakeries in Kowloon City for over 30 years. The store’s outlook is a bit worn out, but the large crowd queuing up around the block is as soothing as a message from the people who yawn for classic and real Hong Kong bakery. The egg tart remains as delicate and enticing as ever, showing the structure of a well-built, textbook puffy egg tart. You could almost sense the heat of oven in the crispness of sides, the tenderness and velvety of the fillings and the gold of the cap as you scoff it.
But to really try out the breadth of this bakery’s art, the coconut tart, a twist of the egg tart, is not to be missed. The flavor of the coconut can never get more intense in a tart than Hoover’s does. The bun with whipped cream is a surprise too, a stunningly rich concoction of bun in traditional Hong Kong style.

The "Holy Ride" mtb biking held every year at Aningalan, San Remigio, Antique during holy week is one of the excited events every biker is waiting for. Climbing the 22 kms. uphill road just for fun, friendship and experiencing the cool breeze on the zenith of the place called the "Little Baguio" of Antique where the atmosphere is truly apt for summer season. Famous in the place are the Igbaclag cave, vast pasture land and fresh vegetables in the place.
