Very large, primarily ground-based cuckoo. Adults are streaked rusty brown in nonbreeding plumage. In breeding plumage the head and front are black. They can fly, but are more typically seen running/flapping across roads, or clumsily crashing into dense vegetation. Unlike many cuckoos this species builds its own nest and does not lay eggs in nests of other species. Voice is a familiar repeated ‘whoop,’ and a screeching cat-like hiss. (eBird)

We heard coucals many times during our trip, but this was one of the very few times we actually saw one. It was in the midst of its morning ablutions and sun bath (hence the ruffled feathers on its back), when we came around the bend in the river. It stopped briefly to peer at us, determined we were not a threat (it was far away and very high), and went back to its bath.

I was stood in a ditch to get this shot, I was looking mostly at the woodland in the background but the stick resting at the base of the tree next to me grabbed my attention. Taken in Barnes's Grove, Buckinghamshire.

Changed the color of my tulip to yellow and after trying every adjustment on the planet in darktable I found that the base table gave me the look I wanted for this Happy Slider Sunday

The four DL Alcos that have just dropped their train in Pocono and Cresco are closing in on Scranton with their return train. The set is crossing Roaring Brook River viewed from Davis trail, a neat way to finish the day.

This city count about 600 dwellings all destroyed before the WW1, then rebuilt and enlarged in 1920.
This is one interesting bird that we have only spotted at Elk Grove Park. The domestic Swan Goose came from Asia. the Swan Goose, native to eastern Eurasia and sometimes called a Chinese goose. A domestic swan goose usually has a large knob at the base of the bill (the wild form lacks this). It also can show a white patch behind the bill. It varies from wild type coloring (mostly gray with a dark line down the back of the otherwise white neck) to pure white. This species is very territorial and had no fear walking up to our dog Louie and hissing. Yes, our Louie got the message and backed off very quickly.
Based on some feedback and my warped sense of mind, here is my version of my Oculus capture taken on the coast of Oregon, and combining it with one of my captures there at Crater Lake (technically all happened in Oregon, therefore it stays in Oregon ..)
Took the image posted below and converted to B&W, then applied a small amount of warming tint to simulate the full moon light spilling over the scene, and then took the night sky from Crater Lake and made that into the sky through the rock openings.
Thoughts ... if someone lives out there, this could be a fun capture to try for real, but need some moonlight, stars, and low tide!!!! all to happen at the same time ... with clear skies.
