• First flown in 31 DEC 1938, the Boeing 307 was the first airliner with a pressurized fuselage. It could transport 33 passengers in great comfort and cruise at 6,096 meters (20,000 feet), while maintaining a cabin pressure of 2,438 meters (8,000 feet). The Stratoliner incorporated the wings, tail and engines of the Boeing B-17C bomber.
• This is the only remaining Stratoliner. Only 10 were built, of which 3 operated by Pan Am. This one, "Clipper Flying Cloud", was delivered to Pan Am in March 1940. It was restorted in 2001 but was forced to ditch in Elliott Bay Seattle, and had to be completely restored again in 2002. In August 2003 she made her final cross-country trip to be preserved here at the Udvar-Hazy Museum.Washington - Dulles International (IAD / KIAD) USA - Virginia
As I stated earlier, one of Henry's objectives was to shot the Former Providence and Worchester GE B30-7B's sitting at the Locomotive Specialist and Recycler shops in Waycross. We would all move south to Haines Ave to obtain shots. Viewed from the Haines Ave overpass, one can see five of the orange and brown units. Originally all are from the 1982 order BN requested from GE for 54 such units. What is to become of the units was not known as it is unlikely they would be given operator cabs. P&W has long since added B39-8's and B40-8W's to their fleet and would not need them. Logic says they are to be scrapped.
CM 2001 is one of the unique former BN B30-7Bs that was sold off shortly after BNSF was formed. The two C30-7s around it also were sold off to HESR and CM by BNSF. They have some quite exotic power out here. Pretty cool to see one of the B-units in action, and in the middle of a A-B-A set of Dash 7s too!
