Sounds Familiar returns with the latest instalment of 7InchNails – its home-grown series of 45s, filled with unique jams from some of the most exciting producers around.

Following on from releases by #KaidiTatham and #Dego, up steps London-based DJ and producer #K15 for two timeless and sophisticated pieces of future jazz. On the A side, ‘Demo Of Heart’ opens with a dazzling keyboard riff, recalling the sunset vibe of fusion giants like George Duke, Herbie Hancock or Azymuth’s Jose Roberto Bertrami, before breaking out into a syncopated, serpentine jam that feels just about ready to melt into the horizon.

On the B Side, K15 brings a Latin heat to the table, with clipped and skittish percussion dancing around a set of lush chords that open into a lysergic stepper, buoyed, as the title ‘Tomorrow’s Promise’ suggests, by a sense of hope and moving on.

Brazilian singer and artist, born April 4th 1979 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Malheiros was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro. She is the daughter of Azymuth bassist Alex Malheiros. She was interested in music from a young age, enrolled in music school at age six, and made her first studio recording before age seven. She cites #Azymuth and #JoãoGilberto as early influences on her musical style.

Malheiros's first commercially distributed recording was the title track of Azymuth's 1991 album 'Curumim', on which she sang lead vocals. Her debut album, Equilibria, was released in 2005. Malheiros wrote or co-wrote nine tracks on the album. Her second album, New Morning, was released in 2008 and was arranged by #ArthurVerocai. Both albums were produced by Daniel Maunick and released on the Far Out Recordings label. A remastered and partially reworked 'Deluxe Edition' of New Morning was released in 2009, containing a few extra tracks and an increased emphasis on instrumentation.

Malheiros made her UK concert debut on 18 May 2005 at #JazzCafe in London.

Azymuth's first album in five years and the Brazilian mavericks have recreated the energy of those spellbinding seventies’ sessions which would launch them into international recognition and confirm their status as one of Brazil’s most successful bands. It's a ten-track journey through the full spectrum of Azymuth’s brilliantly coloured expressionist fusion, with all the cosmic energy and masterful musicianship you’d expect from the world's greatest three-man orchestra... Azymuth rise from the ashes!

Since the passing of keyboard maestro #JoseRobertoBertrami in 2012, remaining members Ivan Conti (centre) and Alex Malheiros (left) have worked tirelessly to keep the spirit of #Azymuth alive, and to continue the legacy of Bertrami’s genius. But #Fênix also marks a new era as the Azymuth trio is complete once again, by special guest keyboardist Kiko Continentino. A hugely talented pianist, composer and arranger, Kiko has worked with the likes of #MiltonNascimento, #GilbertoGil and #Djavan, and the fresh energy and inspiration he has brought to the group is undeniable. The album also features Brazilian percussion legend Robertinho Silva.

Day 0 – Hermeto Pascoal: The Planetário Awakens

It’s here.

Nine days. Nine titans of Brazilian jazz. Nine steps on a path paved with polyrhythms, electric pianos, berimbaus, and voices echoing from the Atlantic rainforests and the jazz clubs of São Paulo and Rio. And now—the final step leads us to the source. To Hermeto Pascoal.

Tonight, I witness O Bruxo live. The man who bends sound into magic. Who hears melodies in the wind, rhythms in the animals, harmonies in the everyday chaos. Born June 22, 1936, in Lagoa da Canoa, Alagoas—Hermeto is more than a musician. He is the alchemist of Brazilian jazz. Composer, multi-instrumentalist, mystic, visionary. The ultimate connector of roots and cosmos.

This entire countdown has been a cosmic alignment toward this moment:

• Robertinho Silva’s percussive heartbeat

• Airto Moreira’s otherworldly groove

• Manfredo Fest’s keyboard sorcery

• Marcos Resende & Index’s fusion flame

• José Roberto Bertrami’s silky genius

• Egberto Gismonti’s kaleidoscopic soundscape

• Tuyo’s modern soul textures, one song with Arthur Verocai

• Azymuth’s futuristic samba

• Djalma Corrêa’s rhythmic mysticism

And now: Hermeto Pascoal E Grupo.

To mark this night, I bring with me the masterpiece that defines Hermeto's celestial madness:

🎶 Planetário Da Gávea – recorded live under the stars at Rio’s planetarium, February 1981.

A double album that captures Hermeto not just performing music, but creating new galaxies with sound. Animal calls, circular breathing, wild improvisation, flute storms, electric keyboards riding on waves of jazz and folklore. This concert is a ceremony of invention.

And tonight, I’ll be part of it.

This is more than the finale. It’s the Big Bang of Brazilian jazz. The living proof that music has no borders, no limits—only endless expansion.

Obrigado, Hermeto.

Let the concert begin.

Let the magic happen.

✨🌌🎷
