Happy #AutomationProDay! My journey in industrial automation started in January 1992. As a recent Electrical Engineering graduate of Auburn University, I was hired as an automation specialist for the Noland Company, the Allen-Bradley distributor in Montgomery, Alabama. The first applications I became involved with were primarily material handling. Montgomery, AL is the palletizer OEM capital of the world. Fast forward to today, and I have been involved in many applications in discrete manufacturing, process control, power generation and delivery, safety, cyber security, software visualization, alarming and analytics in many diverse industries. The picture above is from the Noland Company 1991 Annual Report where they wanted to highlight the growth and performance of our electrical and automation department. Some of you old timers will see in the picture a T3 terminal, PanelView CRT with Keypad, NEMA 509 Starters, and PLC-5. These were the days just before the SLC-500 and IEC components shrunk OEM panels and costs. Oh yeah, we wore a coat and tie to work back then too!

I have been spending a lot of time in the offshores, and for the longest time MOXA and Ruggedcom digitization projects have been my specialty. Critical nature of systems, scorching heat in the very remote rigs of the Middle East fields, and the challenge of stringent timelines made me what I am today and I have only words of appreciation for my team fellows. It's been 18 years in my professional career when I started the journey of being a technologist and engineer experiencing and highlighting the field of automation. It's not only working in automation aspects but also realizing the impacts and benefits of automation not only industries but as well in society. As started being a machine operator to plc/automation technician to project engineer and to automation and instrumentation engineer in different industries like electronics, waste water treatment, steel, robotics, beverages, oil and gas and milling/refinery respectively, I'm able to witness the transitions and development of automation in bringing up the industries and society not only into the next level but how automation contributes in the aspect of safety and quality. I'm glad and proud to showcase, further develop my skills and knowledge and ready for the next role in the field of automation in nation building.
