Coachwork by Vanvooren
Chassis n° 57571
Excellence and less show.
Not all Bugatti clients had avant-garde tastes. Some liked less extravagant coachwork than the in-house designs. This car's buyer chose Vanvooren (Paris). Less futuristic perhaps, but the designer's hand was guided by the 57's character. Look at the radiator, lower than the tops of the wings. Unique for a Vanvooren creation.

In September 1961, the new FB Vauxhall Victor was given a much cleaner design with the sharper creases and flatter panels that were then coming into vogue.
Rust protection and passive safety were also substantially improved over the outgoing model. Mechanically, the main change was the option of a 4-speed all-synchromesh transmission with floor change but the previously used 3-speed all-synchro column change unit was still fitted as standard. The engine was also improved with a higher compression ratio and revised manifold increasing the power output to 55 bhp, reducing the 0-60 time to 22 seconds and raising the top speed to 77 mph.
This 1964 Deluxe is certainly one of the nicest we have ever seen, although whether it has remained in such condition, or has been well restored in the past we can’t say.
There is only one MOT in the file, which it passed in 2011 with no advisories when the clock indicated an unsubstantiated but highly credible 57.302 miles, the car having previously been off the road since at least 2006 when online records began.
The accompanying V5C shows that it has had four previous keepers, and one of them visited The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in 1986 according to a parking ticket secreted in the handbook – the £12 fine must have spoilt their day.
A full model brochure lists the extra luxuries that came with the Deluxe – a heater for example, along with cut-pile carpets, individual leather seats, windscreen washers, wheel embellishers and the all-important chrome plated exhaust pipe sleeve – thank goodness.
Better still though, the first owner of this one splashed out on the four-speed gearbox with floor-mounted lever, which all ads up to a range-topping estate, in a great colour scheme and showing no visible signs of rust. That’s all boxes ticked.
Since its arrival onsite, we have not had it running, but can't think it will take its new owner long to put it back on the road.

The VIVA GRAND SPORT strikes a balance between the VIVASTELLA family car and the VIVASPORT sports car, achieving a luxurious alchemy of the two. Boasting luxury upholstery, chrome bumpers and a more dynamic design, the swift and svelte cabriolet encapsulates the automotive trends of the time. In much the same vein as the NERVA and VIVA ranges, which with their more rounded design broke with the square and angular styling of previous models, the VIVA GRAND SPORT features an aerodynamic body commensurate with its resolutely sporty style.
