For the second time in my life I am working in a production of Grease! The first time was 30 years ago as an actor. This time I am the audio engineer. It has been a challenge. The theatre is outside and under a tent. The sound propogates much differently than it would inside a traditional theatre. Thankfully, we have a wonderful cast who is supportive and patient.

When Gretchen Wilsons crew loaded this piece of work into the venue, I was told that it was a $ 300,000 audio console. Let me see....audio console or a house....hmmm, let me think about that for a minute. I'm going for the house!
Looks like I've been getting a little carried away with the fisheye lately!

A few years ago my friend Sara found out that an old professional audio console was being junked (think of any footage you've seen of music being produced with the big huge panels with dials, sliders, and blinking lights). I had friends join me at the recycler to try to figure out how utterly ridiculous it would be to transport this huge behemoth into my studio apartment. Instead, I ending up stripping off a bunch of interesting parts, as it was deemed utterly ridiculous.
After the fact, I've now heard interviews with people talking about running their audio through the filters on these consoles. The filter itself could have been earning $100 or more an hour if I had known to grab that part.
I've been slowly trying to figure out how to interface with these parts so I can use them as a big midi controller.

After working at Continental Electronics, Dad joined another former CE employee, Ernie Ankele at Autogram. I'm pretty sure this is a picture from those days. If you have found this picture and can tell me more, please feel free.

Ardent Studios. VR-60 console in studio A control room. It was too wide to fit in front of the control room window, so it was installed at right angles. It has a view of the fountain and garden which nicer than looking at tired musicians.
