A herbaceous relative of the daisy family which can sometimes be known as Coneflowers. This hardy perennial will produce large flowers with a distinctive cone from July to October. A great flower to have in the garden in which to attract pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies. Can be found growing native in eastern and central North America.

Our beautiful waterfront attracts many visitors every year. With a bustling marina and harbour through the summer months, where residents and tourists alike enjoy the waterfront lifestyle. One of our most popular amenities is the walking and cycling path that links with the new RiverWalk Park and spans the shore of the St. Lawrence River118

Glossy Ibis- Plegadis Falcinellus

Flocks of Glossy Ibis forage quite close together, advancing slowly as they probe a muddy area. This activity often attracts Snowy Egrets and other species of waders, which capture minnows and other prey moving away from the feeding ibis flocks.

Glossy Ibises nest in colonies, often among other species of ibis, heron, egret, or spoonbill. Colonial nesters have the advantage of many extra sets of eyes looking out for predators. Colonies might also be places where highly gregarious species like ibises can share information about the most productive foraging areas.

Glossy Ibis is a cosmopolitan species, also found in Europe, Asia, and Africa. In recent decades, its population in Spain has been increasing rapidly, probably helped by increased rice cultivation there. Glossy Ibises banded in Spain have turned up as far away as Barbados, having crossed the Atlantic—a remarkable feat but one that several species of heron and egret have managed as well.

The oldest recorded Glossy Ibis was at least 21 years old and lived in Virginia between 1971 and 1992.

Not normally how I spend my evenings but this was great fun and a challenge. We were in pitch black other than a small torch light being used to highlight the flower that had been sprayed to attract the bats. It was a job to sense the presence of the bat because they were in and out so fast if you hit your shutter when you caught a glimpse you would be too late. Hearing and instinct were much more important than your eyes. I didn't actually know what I had captured until I could lighten the images in Lightroom.

The blackberry flowers in my local woods are attracting pleasing numbers of coloured butterflies this year.

Staten Island Preserve is the place to see Sand Hill Cranes up close. You can spot them along the road, feeding in the marshes. This pair was together, and we loved how their eyes were at opposite angles. We just love to see these crimson-capped cranes as they make their return each year.

Clarke Quay Singapore used to be godowns along Singapore River where boats delivered their goods here to be stored in the 19th century. Today it has been conserved, redeveloped and transformed into a place for dining, pubs and bars which attract tourists and locals.

This blooming Saraca tree attracts many type of local sunbirds with appearance of this rare Van Hasselt's sunbird. Every part of this tiny skittish bird is filled with patches of striking shimmering colours under the bright sun ..making it a real challenge to get a decent shot to justify its beauty! ..

Thanks for your visit..

Wishing you a safe and beautiful new week...

This blue-throated bee-eater (merops viridis) was one of a flock I saw on dry grassland, on the island of Pangkor, in Malaysia. The rest of the birds were in groups or pairs but this one was alone and, presumably, singing out to attract attention.

There are spots that are obviously only intended to attract photographers. This is one of them, the cypresses of San Quirico d'Orcia. Two small groups of trees on green hills. Actually nothing special for a landscape photographer as it was created by humans. And yet, as you can see, it works.

The idea of having this image as a screen background was just too tempting. Ok, I wouldn't come here especially for sunrise, but for a short detour I found the result very successful. Above all, I think I was really lucky with the clouds. Without them, the photo wouldn't look nearly as good.

And although there are basically only a few trees in a meadow, visitors could actually be seen here all day long.

By the way, I've been here twice, to be exact, as I forgot my sunglasses the first time. In case anyone is interested in that detail, I found them again.

My first try at growing these beautiful Crocosmia flowers from corms given to me by a neighbourhood Community Gardener.

The abundant eye-catching, brillliantly red, tubular [hummimgbird attracting] flowers appear in midsummer atop bold, slightly arching, sparsely branched 3-foot-tall stems. Crocosmia's mid-green leaves are pleated and swordlike. www.finegardening.com/plant/crocosmia-lucifer

Noteworthy Characteristics

Crocosmia is a genus of about 7 species of cormous plants from grasslands in South Africa. [...].

Genus name comes from the Greek words krokos meaning saffron and osme meaning a smell for the smell of dried flowers steeped in warm water.

'Lucifer' is an Alan Bloom hybrid (Crocosmia x Curtonus) which has flowers and foliage that are similar to gladiolus. A clump-forming plant that features tubular, nodding, scarlet red, one-sided flowers borne along the upper portions of stiffly arching, sometimes branched, flower scapes (stems) typically rising up to 3' (infrequently to 4') tall and slightly above the narrow, sword-shaped, basal leaves. www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDe...

The Älvsborg Bridge (Swedish: Älvsborgsbron) is a suspension bridge over Göta älv in Gothenburg, Sweden, which connects the north and the south part of the city. It was built in 1966. The total length is 933 metres and distance between the towers ("main span") is 417 metres, while the clearance below the bridge is 45 metres. The pylons are 107 metres tall making the bridge one of Gothenburg's most prominent landmarks.

Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden. It is situated by Kattegatt on the west coast of Sweden, and has a population of approximately 570,000.

Gothenburg was founded as a heavily fortified, primarily Dutch, trading colony in 1621. In addition to the generous privileges (e.g. tax relaxation) given to his Dutch allies from the then-ongoing Thirty Years`War, the king also attracted significant numbers of his German and Scottish allies to populate his only town on the western coast. At a key strategic location at the mouth of the river Göta älv, where Scandinavia's largest drainage basin enters the sea, the Port of Gothenburg is now the largest port in the Nordic countries

Gothenburg is home to many students, as the city includes the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Volvo was founded in Gothenburg in 1927. Other key companies are SKF and Astra Zeneca.

I guess even birds need to align their Chakras...

For what I could learn, this is a male Brandt’s comorant that chose his nest and is now "displaying" his blue throat to attract a female.

Another picture of the Kingfisher from yesterday. I threw some fish food in to try to attract some fish for her. The minnows swim around my dock a lot because I feed them all through the day by throwing in pond food and they like the shade under the dock in the heat. Looks like she approves.

... was this honey bee visiting the currently blooming white-pink winter viburnum with a stunning smell. It's probably the Scented Snowball Viburnum x bodnantense that emits this scent that can be perceived from a great distance.

She came quickly, quickly with her fluffy paws to see what shines there .

This 'Illuminated Image' of the Limestone Penmaen-bach Headland (Right) and the Cumulus Clouds above, was taken at 20.10pm, fifteen minutes before the sun finally disappeared below the Western Horizon to my immediate left. Recently, I posted the stunningly beautiful sunset image, taken seconds beforehand, but this was the equally beautiful vista to my then immediate right. The way the setting sun was 'Illuminating' the Cumulus Clouds was what first attracted me - then as the clouds further cleared the sun's rays lit up the nearby Penmaen-bach Headland too.

This was another added bonus and the perfect end to an enjoyable shoreline walk organised by Conwy Camera Club.

We'd left the same spot at 4.30pm to walk the two mile headland shoreline between Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan only possible at extremely low tides. As well as enjoying the stunning coastal views, we were also able to walk beneath the impressive Victorian North Wales Coast Railway and much more modern A55 North Wales Expressway Road Viaducts standing above each other on the headland.

This shot was taken from Penmaenmawr's Western Promenade Car Park looking across Conwy Bay to the town of Llandudno (centre in shadow). Far left, also in shadow, is the Great Orme Limestone Headland and beyond the Irish Sea.

Part of a study to attract bees at the Botanic gardens

I’ve always been rather attracted to this Papermate propelling pencil because of its transparent barrel and the details of the spiral mechanism for extruding the graphite. Oh, and the colour… So I could hardly resist when the spiral topic came around again for Macro Mondays.

A bit of a rush job though - one take and then a patch-up in the processing. Had I had more time I think I would have used a tripod and focus stacking (or a different lens). Ah well…

This is vaguely what I intended, or at least an inch and half of it anyway. The full pencil is more interesting :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Macro Mondays :)

The birch trees seem to be the queens of the forest, especially in spring. Fresh greens attract the looks and the photographers:-). They do keep the serenity and the stillness and invite us to contemplate the view.

A pano from my favorite birch land, 6 shots without tripod.

Thank you for all the comments and favs, my friends.

What attracted me to this scene was the jubilation and excitement of the young tourists there particularly so when they were all back lighted...

"The colorful and whimsical cathedral seems to be alive and part of the elatedl crowd of tourists. Their clothes and shadows seem to match the colors of this unique architecture. What a fantastic capture. "

A review by flickr friend/connoisseur Gertrud Klopp

I've never seen or heard of this plant before and when I spotted it, I knew it was a must have.... it's also attracts bees and butterflies...

it's an annual, so I might have to bring it indoors for the winter...

Spoon and Fork met on the dancefloor. The chemistry was instantaneous.
