And so thanks to the incredible generosity of my best friend Vera (Professional Voice Actor - Click Here ), I got a loan to get me the Tamron 150-600mm G2 A022 Telescopic Lens, of which I trialled this morning, after waking far too early. It had occurred to me after receiving the lens I could use the full focal length and zoom in on garden pots, flowers and other blooms that are on balconies and out of reach areas, but look really good. So hence I leaned over my balcony and got this shot of a beautiful Night Sky Petunia, I actually came up with the title before I had ID'd the flower.

But now I have an ear worm of Metallica's cover of Astronomy from the Garage Days album playing in my head, so now with this massive, professional lens, I can now play with the big Boys and Girls! I've more shots on the way, stay tuned!

In the meantime, it's Friday so enjoy the weekend people and as always, thank you! :)

PS: Zoom in ;)

Story:

Monjes de La Pacaña, Atacama Desert in Chile.

Highlighted in the sky is the southern arm of the Via Lactea, the Large Magellanic Cloud and a colorful Air Glow.

The Southern Arm of the Milky Way is one of the most distinct structures in our galaxy, extending towards the South Celestial Pole. It contains an abundance of fascinating astronomical objects, including nebulas, star clusters, and supernovas. The region is also rich in giant molecular clouds, where new stars are being formed. This intense star-forming activity makes the Southern Arm a natural laboratory for studying the evolution of stars and galaxies.

Airglow is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when gas molecules in the upper atmosphere are excited by sunlight and emit visible light. This diffuse glow can be seen above the horizon, as a faint band of light that stretches across the entire sky. Airglow is particularly visible in the Southern Arm of the Milky Way, where atmospheric conditions are favorable for its observation. It is an interesting phenomenon for astronomers as it can affect the quality of astronomical observations as well as provide information about the composition of the Earth's atmosphere.

The Magellanic Clouds are two small satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds. They are visible to the naked eye in the southern hemisphere and are one of the closest astronomical objects to Earth. The Large Magellanic Cloud is particularly interesting as it contains several bright stars, nebulas, and star clusters that are visible to the naked eye or with a small telescope. These galaxies are an important object of study for astronomers as they can help understand the evolution of galaxies and how stars form and evolve in different environments.

The Moon, at the time of capture, was at its meridian transit but a little high above the horizon (about 25 deg). At this height, any object is affected by atmospheric absorption. The hue is often warmer and a very high definition is not achieved. Normally all the details are softer than in a zenith capture.

NGC 1491 is a bright nebula in the constellation of Perseus. It is also known as LBN 704 or the Fossil Footprint Nebula

Orion From Back Yard

The Lagoon Nebula is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius. It is classified as an emission nebula and as an H II region. The Lagoon Nebula was discovered by Giovanni Hodierna before 1654 and is one of only two star-forming nebulae faintly visible to the eye from mid-northern latitudes. The nebula lies around 4,077 light years away.

While I love the Great Orion Nebula, I am growing more enamored with this particular nebula. Take a closer look at everything going on here - dust lanes, waves of hydrogen clouds and more. It's a gorgeous nebula!
