The height is 105 meters. The diameter of the ball is 22 meters. The monument was built as a symbol of the transfer of the capital of Kazakhstan from Almaty to Astana .
This sunset shot is at the lower end of Nurjol Boulevard. Nurjol Boulevard is a two kilometer pedestrian area in the heart of new Astana; it runs from the Palace of Government near the river through the Baiterek Tower plaza and continues to this large oval plaza with a massive oval fountain surrounded by restaurants. Beyond it is the KazMunayGas headquarters building with a multi-story archway through which you can see the Khan Shatyr Shopping and Entertainment Center, billed as the world's largest tent. There is an elevated highway between the plaza and the KazMunayGas building. The pedestrian Nurjol Boulevard is filled with plazas, gardens and fountains and is lined with large office, retail and residential buildings. There are always people strolling and relaxing along its length both day and night with many restaurants and cafes along the sides of the boulevard.

Triumph of Astana is a 39-floor residential skyscraper located in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Modelled after the flamboyant style of Moscow´s Seven Sisters, the Triumph of Astana is 145 m high. It was completed in 2006.
The Nur-Astana Mosque (Kazakh: Nur-Astana meshiti), is a mosque in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is third largest mosque in Central Asia.

The old north-western part of Astana doesn't remind of the pompous capital with withered apartment blocks standing on the natural bank of a small river.
