Since 2016, the 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion has rescued over 60 people from the Great Smoky Mountains region, including 9 in 2025.

Hover and Pivot
The north parking row are nose in, so the helicopters have to hover and turn, in order to leave. I was able to catch one doing so, with a parked and chained Blackhawk in front.

Both platoons (Smokey and Parton), flying different missions, but caught together.
XT626 served from 1963 until the late 1980s, seeing out service with the Territorial Army at Netheravon. She joined the Army Historic Aircraft Flight on 30 March 1994 and was handed over to the Historic Aircraft Flight Trust on 1 February 2015. The aircraft is registered with the civilian register as G-CIBW.

Fifty years ago last month, I soloed an Army TH-55 helicopter at Fort Wolters, Texas. In honor of the occasion I decided to take my flight school mug along to the various watering holes I frequent for a photo series. For this one I was a Charlotte Tavern listening to @Spielorjh and the "Tuesday Tunes" Irish music group he plays with.
This is a retake, an oops of a different sort. I had very carefully taken this photograph two weeks before, only to realize that the fresh roll of film I was planning to load was still sitting on my desk. Oh, well.
