Ataturk Arboretum may be defined as a living museum established for scientific and educational purposes where indigeneus and exotic trees, shrubs and other woody plant species with known origin and properly labeled with botanic names take place.

Die Indische Lotosblume, auch Stern-Seerose, ist eine Ausläufer bildende, ausdauernde krautige Wasserpflanze. Die gestielten Laubblätter sind peltat (schildförmig) und ganzrandig. Die Blattstiele sind 2 m oder mehr lang. Die runde Blattspreite weist einen Durchmesser von 60 cm oder mehr auf.

While walking through the gardens at the Arboretum in Arcadia, CA, I stumbled upon this interesting composition.
Ein Arboretum (lat. arbor „Baum“) ist eine Sammlung (nicht in Pflanzgefäßen wachsender) verschiedenartiger, oft auch exotischer Gehölze; dies kann beispielsweise ein botanischer Garten sein, in dem hauptsächlich Bäume und Sträucher angepflanzt werden. Man spricht von einem Fruticetum, wenn nur Sträucher angepflanzt werden. Werden in einem Arboretum nur Nadelgehölze angepflanzt, nennt man es Pinetum.
Nach der elften Edition der Encyclopædia Britannica von 1911 wurde der Begriff zum ersten Mal von John Claudius Loudon im Jahr 1838 in einem Buch über Bäume verwendet.
Ein bedeutendes, an raren, auch ausländischen Bäumen reiches – heute untergegangenes – Arboretum zu Studienzwecken schuf bald darauf in Deutschland Eduard Petzold als Parkdirektor des Prinzen Wilhelm Friedrich Karl von Oranien-Nassau in Muskau (vgl. seine Schrift Arboretum

Derby Arboretum opened in 1840 and is often described as ‘Britain's first public park’
Although green spaces and common lands had existed previously, as had private parkland and gardens, the park in Derby was the first to be deliberately planned as a place of public recreation in an urban setting.
The Arboretum was donated to the town in 1840 by Joseph Strutt, a former mayor of Derby and member of a prominent local family of industrialists.
In this photograph you see the grand Victorian houses leading to one of several entrances to the park. Sadly, they’re not all in the best of condition having been subjected to years of neglect.
