Die Indische Lotosblume, auch Stern-Seerose, ist eine Ausläufer bildende, ausdauernde krautige Wasserpflanze. Die gestielten Laubblätter sind peltat (schildförmig) und ganzrandig. Die Blattstiele sind 2 m oder mehr lang. Die runde Blattspreite weist einen Durchmesser von 60 cm oder mehr auf.

While walking through the gardens at the Arboretum in Arcadia, CA, I stumbled upon this interesting composition.
Ein Arboretum (lat. arbor „Baum“) ist eine Sammlung (nicht in Pflanzgefäßen wachsender) verschiedenartiger, oft auch exotischer Gehölze; dies kann beispielsweise ein botanischer Garten sein, in dem hauptsächlich Bäume und Sträucher angepflanzt werden. Man spricht von einem Fruticetum, wenn nur Sträucher angepflanzt werden. Werden in einem Arboretum nur Nadelgehölze angepflanzt, nennt man es Pinetum.
Nach der elften Edition der Encyclopædia Britannica von 1911 wurde der Begriff zum ersten Mal von John Claudius Loudon im Jahr 1838 in einem Buch über Bäume verwendet.
