3 years have passed since 37424 tested the hydraulic buffers at Glasgow Central, so it's time for another round of tests - this time in the hands of GBRf's 66730 "Whitemoor".
66730 arrived on 0K40 from Millerhill and was booked to carry out tests on the large set of hydraulic buffers at the ends of Platforms 6 and 7. These tests involve the loco making contact with the buffers at low speed followed by the driver applying power to put the buffers under pressure - which is what is going on here.
The Network Rail engineer was evidently satisfied that they done what they were supposed to, as he sent the loco away and released the platforms at around 09:30 - 3 hours early.
"Buffer tests" sounds more dramatic than it actually is, but I came in anyway as it's unusual to have a Class 66 working in Central at this time in the morning.

The image today was taken late this evening in the Canley area of Coventry. The view is of a tree that was partially lit by a street lamp at the edge of Prior Deram park. It was almost hidden by the freezing fog that covered the whole area.
The photo was taken using the app ProCamera on my iPhone 6.
First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I Cropped the image and applied the Tonal Contrast filter. I then boosted the Contrast, Saturation and Warmth. I also decreased the Highlights and Ambiance, then added a little extra Structure to the image. Next I used the app Mextures to apply the formula called Yellowish by Ruth Brotherton. Finally I used the app PhotoToaster to add the Backlit preset, the Vibrant FX and an Medium Dark Vignette. I then applied the Charcoal frame.
