By all appearances smoke from a distant fire influenced the light that was reaching Lone Peak. The ridge behind me, however, was preventing the lower cirque from showing such unusual colors.

to all appearances
peace will look poor
and quite weak,
but in effect it beats all.
In tenacity and courage
it surpasses all ...

To all appearances, this is really a black moth with white-tipped wings, but in certain light, a beautiful blue can be picked up. I could see this slightly, but it really came out in a few shots.
(see photo in comments for black appearance)

Due to various challenges lately, it's been a while since Sprocket (left) and Shutter have made Caturday appearances. This time around, the girls got their opportunity.
The Tystie is surely Oban's signature bird.As such it is important to ensure you are in pristine order at all times.
An important stop off for any visitor to the town, has to be the sea wall opposite the cathedral.
During the spring these beauties gather to begin the next generation.
Although present in the bay all year round Spring is surely the best time to see them.

Even after selling off a portion of the Saginaw Sub from Flint to Saginaw in 2005 to Lake State Railway (operated at the time as Saginaw Bay Southern), and even the rest of the Saginaw Sub from Flint to Novi, CSX power still makes pretty regular appearances on the line. Coming down from Gavilion in Saginaw, this loaded CSX express grain train crosses the Cass River through Bridgeport and along the wood pile flood plain bridge that keeps the tracks above high water. The freshly rebuilt and repainted MAC was only a couple months removed from the shops.
On the wall behind us are two photos taken at our wedding 3 years ago. Our appearances may have changed, but our feelings for one another has not.
Photo taken at our Fawkesboro cottage.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Despite appearances, the cockpit section of this aircraft was constructed largely of wood! During WW2, the de Havilland company devised methods of using plywood and balsa to form light and strong structures suitable for aircraft manufacture, the most famous example being the Mosquito. After the war, as the company workforce still had the skills to work with wood they continued using it (at least to some extent) in the earliest jet aircraft. Early jet engines lost power through the use of long jet pipes, so for the dH Vampire family of designs, the tail plane was extended out on booms either side of the exhaust. Other early jet aircraft designs of the era split the exhaust laterally and exited it just behind the wings on either side, continuing the fuselage back to carry the tailplane (eg the Hawker Sea Hawk). An advantage of jets was that the high ground clearance for large propellers was no longer needed, meaning the undercarriage legs could be shortened, reducing weight and making servicing easier. The pilot's forward visibility was greatly improved by the use of tricycle undercarriage making ground handling much safer.
Vampires first flew in 1943, entered service in 1945 and were finally retired from the RAF in 1955. Over 3,000 of various marks were built, serving in the air forces of more than a dozen countries.
Harry was a funny guy, can count on him to have an extra Ace, I hope Jokers are Wild wherever you are.
Harry Laverne Anderson (October 14, 1952 – April 16, 2018) was an American actor, comedian, and magician. He is best known for the lead role of Judge Harry Stone on the 1984–1992 television series Night Court, and later starred in the sitcom Dave's World from 1993 to 1997.
In addition to eight appearances on Saturday Night Live between 1981 and 1985, Anderson had a recurring guest role as con man Harry "The Hat" Gittes on Cheers, toured extensively as a magician, and did several magic/comedy shows for broadcast, including Harry Anderson's Sideshow (1987). He played Richie Tozier in the 1990 miniseries It, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
...aka "Hyacinth Bokeh", LOL. My overseas contacts won't have a clue what I'm on about, nor will a lot of my local ones(no surprise there, then!), so here is a clip from one of Britain's comedy greats, IMHO :-)
On my new pole put up specially.
His appearances are highly unpredictable. A week can go by and he will suddenly appear. One thing I can generally predict is that if he comes in once, he will probably come in several times over a fairly short period so I can grab my camera and get out there.
The northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America. This bird is mainly a permanent resident, but northern birds may move south during harsh weather. This species has rarely been observed in Europe. This species was first described by Linnaeus in his Systema Naturæ in 1758 as Turdus polyglottos. The northern mockingbird is renowned for its mimicking ability, as reflected by the meaning of its scientific name, 'many-tongued mimic.' The northern mockingbird has gray to brown upper feathers and a paler belly. Its wings have white patches which are visible in flight.
The northern mockingbird is an omnivore. It eats both insects and fruits. It is often found in open areas and forest edges but forages in grassy land. The northern mockingbird breeds in southeastern Canada, the United States, northern Mexico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and the Greater Antilles. It is replaced further south by its closest living relative, the tropical mockingbird. The Socorro mockingbird, an endangered species, is also closely related, contrary to previous opinion. The northern mockingbird is listed as of Least Concern according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The northern mockingbird is known for its intelligence and has also been noted in North American culture. A 2009 study showed that the bird was able to recognize individual humans, particularly noting those who had previously been intruders or threats. Also birds recognize their breeding spots and return to areas in which they had greatest success in previous years. Urban birds are more likely to demonstrate this behavior. Finally, the mockingbird has influenced United States culture in multiple ways. The bird is a State bird of 5 states, has been used in book titles, and has also been used in popular songs and lullabies among other appearances in U.S. culture.

Tricky shot...
Despite appearances the light wasnt good and it was one of those 'moments' to decide whether to risk a slow shutter to retain some quality., or use a faster shutter to reduce motion blur
I went for the former and luckily despite the Stags size and weight he paused just for a split second whilst on two legs enabling me to get a shot off
The Patriots are making their sixth Super Bowl appearance –- and fourth in last seven years. The Patriots are the fourth franchise to make six Super Bowl appearances
Needless to say you know what the outcome of this Superbowl will be....If youre smart.
Just over 2 years since Lake State Railway took over the southern end of the Saginaw Sub from CSX, the former face of the line still finds a way to keep their name present here. With an ex Western Maryland SD40 leading, D711 ducks under the signal bridge at South McGrew with a decent sized train for Port Huron in tow.

Despite appearances, the slow worm is actually a legless lizard, not a worm or a snake! Look out for it basking in the sun on heathlands and grasslands, or even in the garden, where it favours compost heaps.

After the almost the entire fleet of the HLE 11 series went for scrap last year, there was a concern that not a single unit left preserved. Fortunately this rumour proved incorrect and the 1187 found its way to Patrimonie SNCB. One of its first appearances was last weekend's photo shooting afternoon in the Tractiewerkplaats Antwerpen-Noord. I dare to say the HLE 11 was the highlight attraction of the afternoon.

Nach, Dani Martín - Apariencias
"Qué me vienes a contar
Qué me vienes a contar
Ya no escucho lo que dices
Cuando empieces a mirar
Verás que hay muchos matices
No
Que no, que no, que no
No hay un solo color
Es una ilusión
Hay escritores que nunca han pisado un aula
Y he conocido a ladrones de ojos honestos
Qué me vienes a contar
Ya no escucho lo que dices
Cuando empieces a mirar
Verás que hay muchos matices más
No
Que no, que no, que no
No hay un solo color
Es una ilusión
Piénsalo quién es quién
No me vengas a contar lo que está mal o que está bien
Míranos otra vez
Hay mil mundos bajo el mar de nuestra piel
Qué me vienes a contar
Ya no escucho lo que dices
Cuando empieces a mirar
Verás que hay muchos matices
No
Que no, que no, que no
No hay una verdad
Que no, que no, que no, que no
Todo son apariencias
Que no, que no, que no
No hay un solo color
Es una ilusión"

Palazzo Carminati is the palace facing the Milan Cathedral on the West side of Piazza del Duomo, the central plaza of Milan, Italy. The palace is named after a famous Cafè, the Carminati. It was built in the late 1860s as private home of a well known Milanese silver manufacturer, Giacomo Cesati.
In the twentieth century, the palace became a landmark of Milan (and a symbol of the city's economic growth) because of the large neon advertising signs that were affixed to its façade, with an overall visual effect that has been compared to that of New York City's Broadway and Times Square or London's Piccadilly Circus. Advertising signs first appeared on the façade of the palace in the 1920s, but they were especially rich and colorful in the 1960s and 1970s. Besides being known to the Milanese, the façade of the palace became familiar to everyone in Italy through a number of appearances in films and television, including a spot for the Cynar liquor.
The signs were eventually removed by Milan's major Gabriele Albertini in 1999, as a consequence of a campaign aimed at promoting the plaza's "dignity", although this decision has since been frequently criticized.
Being power short in Flint for 6 axles, the SD75I that had been on L514 was pulled and replaced with a yard engine in the form of GTW 6224. Brought into the GTW family with the purchase of the DT&I, the GP38-2 is a little rough and peachy looking in the nose, but going past the GTW depot in downtown Fenton, the rough unit and depot that needs a rehab look absolutely perfect together.
