Last weekend a good part of the governmental buildings in Berlin opened their doors for the public for the "Staatsbesuch 2012: Tag der offenen Ministerien und Tag der offenen Tür im Bundeskanzleramt".
This perspective is therefore very unusual, since you usually cannot enter the Bundeskanzleramt or its frontyard. I always loved this orange tree, that gave an amazing contrast with the perfect blue sky we had yesterday. I like this shot, and am really happy with the result.

I’ve been interested in German politics since I was a teenager, so here’s my light reading of choice over the Christmas break – all 688 pages of it! Frohe Weihnachten und ein schönes neues Jahr euch allen!
Andreas Gursky's Review (2015) hangs against the pristine white wall of The Broad's third-floor gallery, and I framed it head-on to let the work do what Gursky intended: collapse the distance between viewer and viewed, between art and its institutional reception. The photograph depicts four German chancellors from behind — Helmut Schmidt, Helmut Kohl, Gerhard Schröder, and Angela Merkel — seated in contemplation before a monumental Barnett Newman color field painting, that signature cadmium red split by vertical "zips." It's a picture of statecraft looking at a picture, and standing here makes you the third tier in that recursive chain of authority and observation. I held back from the wall to include the polished concrete floor and the clean shadow gap where wall meets ground, because The Broad's interior architecture is essential to how this image reads. Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed these galleries as deliberately neutral containers — column-free, daylit from above through the building's "veil" exterior — so that nothing competes with the work. The minimalism is the point. Gursky's large-format precision, with its near-clinical detail and theatrical scale, finds its ideal home in this hushed white room. Merkel's yellow blazer punctuates the line of dark suits, the chromatic anchor in a meditation on power, succession, and the German postwar political imagination.

The news that Alexander has been assigned a new mission to the International Space Station was announced in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel by ESA Director General Jan Woerner at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany on 18 May.
Alexander will fulfil the role of commander during the second part of his six-month mission in 2018.
The European Astronaut Centre is a training facility and home base for all European astronauts. It is a centre of excellence for astronaut training and medical support.
