Everything
~ by Srikanth Reddy
She was watching the solar eclipse
through a piece of broken bottle
when he left home.
He found a blue kite in the forest
on the day she lay down
with a sailor. When his name changed,
she stitched a cloud to a quilt
made of rags. They did not meet,
so they never could be parted.
So she finished her prayer,
& he folded his map of the sea.

History of New York City's Poetry in Motion (excerpt)
Inspired by a similar program in London, Poetry in Motion was launched by MTA New York City Transit in 1992. From the beginning, works for series were selected by representatives from the MTA and the Poetry Society of America. The first four poems to appear were "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by Walt Whitman, "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" by Emily Dickinson, "When You Are Old" by William Butler Yeats, and "Let There Be New Flowering" by Lucille Clifton.

Twice per weekday I walk past this small outcrop of earth situated along Skillman Avenue and the Sunnyside Train Yard and it's just a little something that gives me so much pleasure, as each of the seasons are contained within this one small triangular island that's sandwiched between the intersection of Skillman & 43rd Avenues in Long Island City, Queens, NYC

The Greenstreets program converts paved, vacant traffic islands, and medians into green spaces filled with trees, shrubs, and groundcover in an effort to capture stormwater.
The program is a part of the NYC Green Infrastructure Plan. All funding for Greenstreet construction under this plan is administered by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

That additional street sign, Jodie Lane, is in memory of that young woman who lived in this area and had been out walking her dogs one January day back in 2004, when she stepped on an electrified ConEd box, right there on the street, and was instantly electrocuted. Miss Lane had been a Columbia University grad student.

There's NO Parking on Sidewalks
_____
It's so out of control. And some are placing their neon construction vests on the dashboard as proof they can just randomly do as they please, and are seemingly getting away with it. These vehicles are never towed, or even ticketed.
What if a disabled person needed to get past?
Or a citizen in a wheelchair for that matter?

When it comes to photography, many times I can be unconventional, in that why must one point a camera down at something, or level with a subject. Why even look through the viewfinder at all? Why not just take a photo from the ground up, literally, or from within the branches of a flowering shrub or tree for that matter.

This dumpy furniture store. Let's see what happens here
I'm betting how this entire block will be transformed:
This corner car dealer, the furniture store, corner hotel, 7/11, restaurant, empty lot, Tower Car dealership, NY Public Library building and the "for sale" (previous) paint building will all be completely torn down and a bunch of skyscraper luxury rental apartment buildings will take their place.
Unlike most, I walk everywhere and are constantly photographing scenes just like this

At the Medical Complex
6 1/2 months following my last chemotherapy treatment and I'm feeling pretty good, though getting up each morning has become a real challenge, as the joints of my lower extremities feel almost arthritic upon waking. And for the first half hour or so of each new day, I walk about like an orangutan. To counteract that, I have slowly begun doing light stretching exercises each morning, and was instructed just today to reduce the dosage of one of my meds, to determine whether that's having an adverse effect on it all. Quite possible. We shall see.
In other much more exciting news, my new smile launches by July 4th. Following 3-years as a patient at NYU's College of Dentistry, in Manhattan, I have undergone a complete mouth restoration. Which all needed to be placed on hold for 6-months while I underwent treatment. It's never boring with me, as I typically have several irons in the fire at any given moment. NYU Dentistry has been the most comprehensive dental care that I have ever received. Excellent all around.
And life is good.
