Andrew Ramey falls on North Fall Creek is the first main waterfall off the Fall Creek trail . It is so photogenic, with so much space for a diversity of compositions, one could easily spend a sizable amount of time down in here for photos. The way the lighting played out down here when I made this one, brought to mind a formal affair with champagne and caviar. This was my first hike here and since the sun was already beginning to rise in a cloudless sky, (and my not knowing what to expect), I was on the front burner to maintain pace. I once read where another photographer expressed that they had a love/hate relationship with the rock in the foreground. When I arrived and saw it, I just shot around it. I shared this photo to include it, just for the character of it. As for me, even though it does "stick out like a sore thumb", I felt like it belonged here with the waterfall...I considered it in the context of being a traditional fixture.

Andrew Marvell (1621-78) was a skilled politician and is credited with saving Milton's life from revengeful Royalists after the Restoration. Though a Puritan, Marvell disapproved of civil war, like Shakespeare, and he supported the Restoration of the Stuart Monarchy. This statue stands at Kingston-on-Hull, for which Marvell was Member of Parliament.

Andrew's Memorial, Comber, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.

Andrew's Memorial was built as a tribute to Mr Andrews who designed and died on the Titanic.

In 1914 the 'Thomas Andrews Jnr. Shipbuilder, Memorial Hall' was built in his memory and the hall is now an integral part of the Andrews Memorial Primary School which bears his name. Today its pupils continue to be proud of Thomas Andrews' achievements and their town's links with this great ship.

I was up editing old photos of my friends last night for a blog post.

I had just left a downtown camera store where I had lusted after some lenses I couldn’t afford when I saw him standing against the wall of a downtown building, waiting for his streetcar. I thought he had a friendly and photogenic face as he listened to music on his headphone so I approached him with my usual invitation to be part of my project. He lifted his headphone away from one ear to her my pitch and shrugged a friendly “Ok. Why not?” Meet Andrew.

I confirmed that he was waiting for the streetcar so I quickly gave him my contact card and went to work, assuring him that I would give a head’s up if I saw the streetcar approaching. I photographed him against the wall of one of downtown’s older stone buildings and, in response to his question “should the headphones be off?” I suggested a couple of photos with the headphones and a couple without. I had to wait a few moments between photos for background distractions to clear but I felt good about the photos.

Andrew is 46 and I found out he was born in London England to parents who are from Barbados. “But I grew up in Toronto” he added. He works for Canada’s iconic department store which was just across the street from where we were standing.

Once known as The Hudson's Bay Company and now known simply as The Bay, the company predates Canada's confederation by 200 years and has its roots in the fur-trading business. At that time it functioned as the de facto government of a significant portion of North America and was the largest landowner in the world. You can learn the fascinating history of this remarkable company here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson%27s_Bay_Company.

Andrew had a very mellow voice and seemed very relaxed and “grounded” so this brief exchange was very friendly and pleasant despite its brevity. He told me he had tried to get a career going doing voice-overs but that hadn’t worked out. “Hey” he said, “you never know unless you try, right?” I agreed and commented that he did, indeed, have a very good voice for voice-over work. Just then his streetcar arrived and we had to say goodbye. I invited him to contact me for a free copy of his photo if he likes it in my photostream.

Thanks. Andrew, for sharing a couple of minutes at the streetcar stop this afternoon. It was nice meeting you and I appreciate your contribution to my photography project.

Wonderful easygoing #psychedelicportrait shoot with actor Andrew Berlin @andrewaaronb whose singing is out of this world. He’s currently in Oklahoma in the West End transfer, a brilliant gutsy reinvention of the original Rogers & Hammerstein musical which blew me away when I saw it at the Young Vic.

Huge thanks Zachary James @theofficialzacharyjames for connecting us up!
