Numbers continue to climb with Q Dot Davis & Friends Tour

Very few artists can capture a network of artists that are willing to perform on a concert tour that hasn’t been approved by a major record label. After the success of Chance the Rapper, Q Dot Davis has remained inspired to balance the connections between artists, venues, exposure and revenue.

In the past three weeks, the Q Dot Davis & Friends tour featured concerts in Atlanta’s ritzy Ansley Mall area. Another show was in New Orleans as part of the Indie Gras event celebrating All-Star Weekend. The third leg of the tour found it’s way to Birmingham this weekend at Birmingham's music gem, The Nick Rocks.

This past weekend, Davis was joined by a list of talented artists from the southeast, including Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana. Bringing their unique flavor and artistry to the Nick Rocks, all of the artists excelled in their respective areas.

Performing on the lineup this weekend were

Multi-talented actor and rapper Brunn Brunn P x Redd Royalty x Vibez x Social Justice Advocate Markus Katwell Cooke x the Christian Kings of Krunk Rapture The Rapper x Cov Raw x Exclusive Video Producer, Ed Hyde x Mr. Pete x 3$E x Conscious rapper Ced Shelton delivered a thought provoking analytical lyrical rap context overlaid by a 90z hip hop beat. Cedd X is definitely ahead of his time musically. Other acts noticed were Dany x Cafe Jones x Jay Larm xTyler Sherbert. Rapper Kenny G surprised fans and took the stage to deliver a rap performance as part of his birthday celebration.

Birmingham AFT proudly joined a number of teachers, administrators, parents, politicians, educational and community leaders recently for a discussion on the steps of the Birmingham Board of Education.

Speakers for the event include Birmingham City Councilor Sheila Tyson Alabama State

Representative Rod Scott, AEA Associate Executive Director Theron Stokes, Birmingham City School Board candidate Bishop Womack, Dr. T.L. Lewis (Bethel Baptist Church – Pratt City), Pastor Patrick Sellers (Mt. Zion – Riley) and Birmingham City School Board Members Sherman Collins and Cheri Gardner.

The topic of the discussion centered around the hiring process used by Birmingham City Schools to select the five finalist for Superintendent.

Recently the Birmingham City School Board drew criticism when they chose NOT to include a local candidate as a choice in their Top 5. Of the five candidates named, two withdrew their applications.

“You mean to tell me that out of the entire State of Alabama, you couldn’t find a single applicant suitable for an interview?” ~Councilor Sheila Tyson

Sheila Tyson, Birmingham City (District 6) Councilor, was praised during the event for the above comment provided during the public discussion. The comment eventually became the sound bite for a number of media outlet. Tyson’s comments made a number of people question whether or not the hiring process was fair to local applicants.

Birmingham AFT local president Richard Franklin echoed Tyson’s concerns by sharing that Birmingham City Schools needs to select a candidate that truly understand the education laws in Alabama. Franklin cited two of the previous Superintendents Dr. Gacutan and Dr. Witherspoon to prove how detrimental it could be to hire another Superintendent who doesn’t understand Alabama laws.

The public discussion made local headlines as a number of community members expressed their dislike of the process used by Birmingham City Schools to select the five finalist for Superintendent.

Birmingham AFT has been both visually present and vocal throughout the entire process to ensure members that AFT will fight for their best interest. A photo recap is provided below.

The God Box Pop-UP Shop (Birmingham)

Written By: #AndreTheBlogger

“You were born to be Kings and Queens!” ~ David Banner

When David Banner does a pop-up shop, it’s actually a pretty cool event for the whole family. While walking into Birmingham’s “The Shoe Clinic” today, I hear a familiar voice creating me as I get ready to enter the door. To my surprise, it was legendary rapper, David Banner. Banner felt at home with his fans and had no problems celebrating his wisdom with the future generation.

Banner’s fanbase ranged from a child around 8 years old to his grandmother who recited the lyrics to Banner’s music as she walked out the door. While fans were getting a sneak peak of his latest project, Banner surprised fans by walking amongst the crowd and doing live videos via his social media page.

The last time David Banner came to Birmingham, I remembered a young man saying that Banner should support black businesses. Banner made it publicly known today for his critics that most of the products and images for his new album were completed using black owned business. Banner shared that he didn’t want to just “walk the walk” without “talking the talk!”

Banner further explained the desire to black people having a flag that meant something to them and was a symbol of their true heritage. While discussing the flag, Banner drew criticism with his statement regarding respecting the rights of white people to celebrate the confederate flag. Despite his criticism, his comment truly made the connection that all people deserve to have their heritage respected. If you get a chance to catch his pop-up shop, definitely attend. It’s truly not like your typical autograph signing.

The third leg of the tour found it’s way to Birmingham this weekend at the city and a show Birmingham music gem, The Nick Rocks.

The God Box Pop-UP Shop (Birmingham)

Super Bowl LI (2017) Pep Rally

The #AtlantaFalcons definitely has the entire city cheering them on. Their win could become historic since many are supporting their potentially first Super Bowl win. The #RiseUp mantra is definitely the motto for me! Cheering for my Atlanta

Falcons all the way.

I got a chance to capture these images during the recent pep rally hosted by the City of Atlanta to support the team on their quest to bring the championship where it belongs!

Birmingham AFT has been both visually present and vocal throughout the entire process to ensure members that AFT will fight for their best interest. A photo recap is provided below.
