"On the longest day
The Vanishing mind
Knows not when the day ends (or begins anymore)
Who could care for you
Who could understand... "
from the song- "The Vanishing Mind" by Calexico
I saw an elderly lady on the beach one evening. She was barely hanging onto a post and gazing out to sea. I thought she looked "lost" and needed help. When I approached her, she said to Me "Are you OK, you look lost ?"
We talked for over an hour about the aging mind and brain damage. She read me like she was gazing into a crystal ball. And she blew my mind.
I was streaming this song, "The Vanishing Mind" in my headphones when I met her. And then I continued down the beach, with Trailer dog, still listening to the song. I took this photo the same night, still thinking about the powerful encounter I had with my deep thinking new friend.
So, this is dedicated to my friend, Clista and to our elusive mental powers and Vanishing minds...

Along with blood vessels (red) and nerve cells (green), this mouse brain shows abnormal protein clumps known as plaques (blue). These plaques multiply in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease and are associated with the memory impairment characteristic of the disease. Because mice have genomes nearly identical to our own, they are used to study both the genetic and environmental factors that trigger Alzheimer's disease. Experimental treatments are also tested in mice to identify the best potential therapies for human patients.

Hericium Coralloides, the Edible and Medicinal Coral Tooth Mushrooms (Polish names: soplowka bukowa, soplowka galezista, soplowka koralowa, barania glowa, grzywa bialego lwa, kolczak koralowy, malpi pompon). The rare fungi are under strict species protection in Poland, on the 2004 Minister Red List with the ‘liable to extinction’ legal status (‘czerwona lista roslin i grzybow, status V’). This post presents a new locality of the protected fungus Hericium coralloides located in a manor park in Chalin by the lakeside. The basiodiocarp (fruiting body) grows on a fragment of fallen trunk on Lake Sremskie. In China, it is highly valued for its medicinal properties and is widely consumed.

Twenty pieces of original artwork by residents of Sycamore Village were selected to be on display at the local downtown Sole Survivor Art Gallery in Belleville. A reception was held on Friday to debut the extraordinary exhibit. Residents Maggie Reickenberg and Phillip Craig raised the most monies with their artwork at last year's art auction so they were chosen to be in the spotlight for the evening. They arrived with family members to the gallery via limousine and enjoyed a spread of shrimp and appetizers while they received many compliments on their artwork. Seven of the twenty paintings sold during the evening and the rest of the artwork will be for sale through the month of October. Proceeds will benefit the St. Louis University Neurology Department for Alzheimer's research.
