It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since we lost the lovely Ali.
She was a most treasured friend and such an artist and inspiration with her camera.
Remembered every day, with love and with the joy of remembering the happy times spent together out with our cameras.
With love and thoughts today for Ali’s family.
Miss ya Ali-gator.

Yesterday the world lost a beautiful soul, and I lost the best of friends.
You were the sort of friend that shone light into my life. It felt like our friendship was meant to be right from the start, it has been such a short time really, but such a good time that has meant so much to me.
You were always passionate about the things you believed in, animal rights and other environmental causes were very important and I loved the hours we spent attending protest rallies and talking about politics and the issues of the day.
You were always there for me, always willing to listen and to talk, and to tell me when I was being a bit bloody stupid about things.
You were a terribly bad influence as far as any sort of chocolate was concerned though, but I never complained.
As a photographer you were really very special. You would tell me that you knew nothing of the technical side of things (I never quite believed that), and that you really didn’t know much about processing (didn’t really believe that either). However, put the Lensbaby, or 60mm macro on your camera and you would weave magic, your ICM images were always ethereal and beautiful, and your multiple exposures were so accurate and clever that I could never really ever work out how you controlled them so well, especially as they were always completed in-camera. I learnt as much from you as I have from anyone, you will always be a part of my photography.
My dear Ali-gator, I will miss you so much. I will miss those long email conversations. I will miss our outings to Fitzroy and Collingwood and our wanderings around the city laneways. I will miss being your “model” and sharing a pumpkin and feta pizza with you. I will miss our outings to find beautiful flowers, and getting wet photographing water-drops with you. I will miss the walks around Yarra Bend park, and the lunches at QPO. All of these things will always remind me of you.
You have a very permanent place in my heart. I feel so lucky to have had you call me your friend.
Love you Ali-gator.
My love and condolences to Ali’s beautiful family.

I revisited this images of Ali I shot just over a year ago. Not only did I convert it to B/W but using layers and blending modes I added some texture to the stucco wall.
Three light set-up.
One overhead 22 inch beauty dish.
Two edge lights in small soft boxes with grids from the sides.

“Fighter’s Heaven”, Muhammad Ali’s Training Camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania, was the training facility built by Muhammad Ali, where he trained for some of his biggest fights. It is now open to the public, free of charge, to tour.
This is a portrait of one of my co-workers, been trying to get together for some time to do his portrait. Finally got it done with some great results.

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha or Alabaster Mosque (Arabic: مسجد محمد علي, Turkish: Mehmet Ali Paşa Camii) is a mosque situated in the Citadel of Cairo in Egypt and commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Situated on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th century, is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo. The mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali's oldest son, who died in 1816.
This mosque, along with the citadel, is one of the landmarks and tourist attractions of Cairo and is one of the first features to be seen when approaching the city from no matter which side.

Perth Strobist Meet @ Trigg Beach. Ali was an awesome model. Was my first time mucking around with my strobes with a model. Tragically I lost my SB800 to a rock :( So it was just me and my trusty SB600 and a shoot through umbrella.
Looks like I have to get this new monitor calibrated...Can't get the colours right...
Strobist: SB600 at 1/2 power shot through white umbrella (cactus triggers) on left of camera
