The Fayette County Public Schools Academic Pentathlon teams won first place in the nation at the United States Academic Pentathlon Regional Competition last month. During the competition, the students participated in multiple categories including essay writing and five tests, including Chemistry and Algebra/Trigonometry. The FCPS 8th grade team was first in the nation and the top team overall in the state of Tennessee. The FCPS 7th grade team was the top 7th grade team in the nation, third overall team in the nation, and the 2nd place team in Tennessee – second only to the FCPS 8th grade team. The 7th grade team also placed above Jackson's 8th grade Pentathlon team. There were fifty-seven teams who participated in the Regional Competition. The FCPS Academic Pentathlon teams improved from the first competition to the Regionals. We at Fayette County Public Schools are proud of the East Junior High and West Junior High Academic Pentathlon teams and grateful for the steady leadership of their instructor, Mr. Clint Brown.
