"Alexandria, Virginia, is a city on the Potomac River, just south of Washington, DC. It’s known for its Old Town, with brick sidewalks and well-preserved 18th- and 19th-century buildings. King Street is lined with boutiques and specialty shops. Founding fathers dined at Gadsby’s Tavern, now a museum with period objects and photographs. Carlyle House Historic Park is a restored Georgian mansion with a garden."

Fishing boats rest in the harbor of Alexandria beneath the historic Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century Mamluk fortress built on the legendary site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Under dramatic Mediterranean skies, daily life unfolds where history, sea, and tradition converge along Egypt’s northern coast.

📍 Alexandria, Egypt

A northbound Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac pig train approaches the end of its journey as it rolls along Potomac Yard. In the background is a Southern/NS power set, and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

Position: Alexandria Port is one of the oldest ports in the world. Alexandria port consists of two harbours (East and West) separated by a T-shaped peninsula. The East harbour is shallow and is not navigable by large vessels. The West harbour is used for commercial shipping. The harbour is formed by two converging breakwaters. The City of Alexandria is located at the west end of River Nile between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Mariot. It is the second most important city and the main port in Egypt. On the right side is Mosque of Ibn Khaldoun.

The girl on the left, of course, wears the Hellenistic royal diadem or headband, Kleopatra-style.

It’s a busy time near the passenger station in Alexandria, Virginia. A Southern Railway excursion powered by 2-10-4 610 has unloaded its passengers, and is slowly backing out of the station while a Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac train waits to depart. Meanwhile, the Southern Crescent has appeared to make its station stop. It’s amazing how tolerant the Class 1 railroads were of railfans milling around active tracks.

Alexandria, USA

A little and nice historical city and harbor

Based on the TV series : The Walking Dead, Season 6

More from Alexandria for the moment. It is one of the more foreign areas around here to me and I've only really skirted the edges of it. So definitely more to come in the future too.

My beloved little sister Ruthie on the left with two of our longtime EHS campus neighbors: in the center is Sally Walden, whose father "Sleepy Syd" Walden coached Varsity football and baseball and taught Ancient History to freshmen. Mr. Walden never said much or smiled that I can remember. He threw me out of Ancient History class one morning for correcting his pronunciation of "Medici". During football games he'd walk up and down the sidelines screaming at individual players for fucking up -- in-your-face profanities that made you feel like utter shit. Or so I'm told -- I decided early on not to bother with trying out for the varsity squad. I played junior varsity football two years and had a fantastic time; plus, my dad was the defensive secondary coach for the jv's and I loved playing for him.

Sarah Latham's father "Uncle Bob" Latham had been teaching at EHS since the 1920s, finally retiring around 1970. The best thing about Uncle Bob was his family -- his children Penny, Joe, and Sarah were among our best friends on campus (as was Sally Walden) and his wife Ella was my mom's best friend.

Ruthie and Sally are both around 14 years old in this picture, Sarah 13. I love Ruthie's dress; the pattern is made up of brown dachshunds.

It's been a long month of rain in DC. Taken on the Potomac River in Alexandria, VA.
