Sitting in the Butterfly Garden waiting for birds to come to the fountain. This vireo decides to come to the closest water feature to me. I think this was at the closest focus range I could have.

Tough time for owl photography in the San Francisco Bay Area this winter, so I posted one from December 2021. Note ice crystals on and around the beautiful face of this Long-eared Owl shortly after dawn.
Rarely, the Sunol Regional Wilderness in SF East Bay, its elevation only several hundred feet high, but their heads were covered by snow after storm attacked for one week.
This image was taken from my backyard, the distance to the Wilderness about 45 miles (72km) far away. Thanks for your stopping-by and wishing you and your family a Happy Lunar New Year!
Spent Christmas afternoon out photographing birds. Hope everyone spent the day doing whatever they love best with those who love you best.

Six years ago during the winter of 2014 I found myself taking an early morning walk around Lake Elizabeth in Fremont. It was a chilly morning. A wet blanket of cool fog draped over the land limiting visibility to a hundred feet or so. Two blocks away Marg was undergoing a surgery that was to have a large impact on our lives for the next 3 years.
I found this image the other night, and it reminded me of that morning. It also reminded me that even in the darkest times there are moments of beauty. Darkness can be a transformative state, as long as you maintain the courage to not push it away. I learned that what I thought was darkness, was really part of the light.
