When we were buying the house here in Spain, we were told that ceiling fans would be all we needed to keep us cool in the summer = WRONG!
Fans only move the air. True, the sensation of moving air is cooling but not to the extent you need when temperatures are high. The other problem is that fans do not reduce humidity.
So we bought a portable air conditioning unit to at least cool our bedroom down. It does work but is very noisy and you have to vent it out of a window. In the mosquito season, the last thing you want is a window open at night without a net to cover it.
Step two was therefore to invest in wall mounted split units which provide great cooling, dry the air thoroughly and are quiet in operation. You could sleep with them on.
The portable unit was consigned to the spare room where it just about works to keep the room comfortable.
Even still, we are considering investing in a split unit for that room as well. It would be more convenient and would make the room a lot cooler for our family when they come to stay.
When Molly was here a couple of weeks ago, her baby monitor was registering 28 degrees in that room which is just too hot for a comfortable night’s sleep.
