The adjective that best describes Kakashi is adventurous. We have been taking walks ever since he was a kitten and he is now 15 years old. Each day brings new adventures and Kakashi loves to be outside exploring the woods with me. We often go for walks over a mile, crossing streams in the process. He has such a bold adventurous spirit.

This gull seemed the one most interested in me. As I aimed my lens at it, the head tilted slightly to one side as it looked me right in the eye.
Some adjectives that don't usually come to mind when describing the elk rut. Peaceful, gentle, placid, tender, mellow.
But occasionally, something that resembles tenderness and gentleness occurs. A cow elk will approach a bull and gently rub her head against his. I think the real purpose of this is related the pheromones released from the preorbital glands near the bull's eye. Rubbing their faces together likely enhances attraction/sexual receptiveness.
If you get a chance, enlarge this one and take a close look at the bull's right antler. Eight points...not something I see very often. His left one is a more typical six points. As for his body mass, he's pretty much peaked. A month or so after this was taken, his antlers will still be impressive, but his body will be considerably smaller. The strenuous nature of the rut will cause him to lose as much as 20% of his body weight.

I liked both these gulls and they certainly did not mind me photographing them. But I particularly admired the way this gull carried itself. Completely self-assured and uncaring of what anyone thought of it. Prince of its own domain. I like that.
This tree was tiny compared to others in the area, but it was well ahead of its neighbors in terms of early autumn color, and it seemed to be transitioning from the top down. I photographed it using the Pep Ventosa technique. The method involves walking around a subject while taking multiple shots along the way, then merging those photos together in post processing. This image was made using 11 of the 13 photos that I shot, with additional processing using various Topaz filters.

A shot I've actually been thinking about for a long time, and Macro Mondays gave me the perfect excuse to carve out some time and give it a whirl...
I've uploaded it a bit early to make sure the quality would transfer well to Flickr. I've been having to troubleshoot some hick-ups in my photo processing/computer program. Photos, once tweaked, have a ~50/50 % tendency to look washed out on my desktop and Flickr. Not sure what exactly is going on. If anyone has some ideas, I'd appreciate feedback. Thankfully, it worked properly today!

The Bergisches Land emerged from the historic Duchy of Berg. The region also owes its name to the former sovereigns, the Counts (and later Dukes) of the House of Berg.
The adjectival Latin term terre Montensis, i.e. of the Bergisches Land, was first recorded in writing in a Bergisch office constitution in 1363 [de], although terra de Monte or "Land von Berg" appeared in earlier documents.
The market fountain was donated by Mayor Peter Schnitzler in 1730. The column shows the Gräfrath lay judge's seal, which has been handed down since 1483. Today's column is a simplified replica.
Narrow streets with Bergisch half-timbered houses, an idyllic market square surrounded by lovingly restored buildings, an imposing monastery church that sits high up - 72 steps lead up: Gräfrath shows the picture of a small Bergisch town in pre-industrial times. Well-preserved ensembles of houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Century and the reformed church from 1689 characterize the picture. The historic town center is a listed building.
The landmark, visible from afar, is the monastery church of St. Mary of the Assumption with its eight-sided roof turret and the "lantern", a turret-like attachment. The church is the oldest building in town. Built around 1195 as a Romanesque pillar basilica and collegiate church of the Augustinian choir women. Today the image is influenced by Baroque. The former monastery building now houses the German Blade Museum.

Back in 1955, and after two consecutive back to back hurricanes, this river overflowed flooding the area badly and caused considerable damage in our town and adjacent towns.
This now inactive siding and railroad bridge that crosses the river, and once fed and supplied a mill a few hundred feet away. The mill, now converted to residential housing, once produced wool products for the military during the war years. History can be so darn interesting from time to time!

My name is Molly, and I live near Lake Michigan in Wisconsin with my husband, Mike, and our four rescue cats—Floki, Ivar, Torvi, and Olaf—along with the spirits of several other cats and dogs we’ve loved and lost.
I chose Seclusive Nature as my handle because Mike and I are very introverted and feel most at peace in solitude—whether we’re at home or in the wild.
Mike and I both have wanderlust in our veins and love to explore. We’re also huge fans of all animals, which is the main reason we went vegan in 2006. Our vegan journey has been an adventure of its own, and we’ve enjoyed it tremendously!
I’m an avid reader, a bit of a notebook and bandana junkie, and a fervent nature lover. I’m also quite fond of street art and a firm believer in embracing your wild.
Flickr is the only platform I’m active on. I use it as a creative outlet, a visual journal, a microblog, and a way to organize my photos and videos. While I’m not here for the social aspects, I hope my posts bring some joy to others.

I reckon we enjoyed this exact same weather for five weeks straight with not a patch of blue sky to be seen. Luckily, we're now into blustery sunshine and showers, and spring (for us at least) seems to be on the way.

I tried many shots of this wall, but I never got the effect I was hoping for....it just wasn't meant to be.
Drab, an adjective that would be used to appropriately describe the weather conditions throughout the preceding days here in Minnesota. Still though with plenty of good photographs bagged from the weekend goings on and stomachs full from several dozen Kwik Trip "Glazers, our trip was just about complete as we pointed the car southward for home. A final, quick drive by of CN's Proctor Yard facilities on our way out of town yielded a road crew ascending the steps aboard DM&IR "Tunnel Motor" No. 405 assuming the foremost position on an outbound train staged for a run up to the mines. Figuring it wouldn't take them long to leave, this prized target made the decision easy to go ahead wait around for there departure and within minutes, RTC Homewood lit them up with lights out of town, making for an exit that coincided perfectly with sun finally appearing through the retreating front of rain clouds. Truly a Missabe Miracle. Here, the old maroon and yellow, and two other Range regulars, stare down low-lying sunlight as they hustle north through Saginaw, surrounded in autumn's fiery splendor, with train U71681 03 and its trailing 141 empty ore jennies for the mine and processing plant at Cleveland-Cliffs' United Taconite facility near Eveleth.

Elijah is a cat that loves to have his picture taken and will pretty much follow me to wherever I want to take one (inside the house). He will lay or sit next to most props without bothering them too much although sometimes a paw just has to pop out and bat the items. He fits into the 'cautious' category also as he has to make sure that something new is safe and isn't going to reach out and grab him. :) Our biggest photoshoot problem... Noah usually pounces out of nowhere and jumps on Elijah making everything (including Elijah) scatter across the floor. =^..^=
