PTM ~ Let's Do 52 week 2/52

Theme: Imperfection

Processed with: Luminosity verve and organic

Everyone has imperfections and flaws, mine are these maple bacon doughnut from Suzy Q. Deep fried, sugared and laced with bacon (yes bacon) it screams IMPERFECTION. With it's addictive properties it is the worst type of food to put into your body. Consuming too much of these will create imperfection in all the wrong places:)

From "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking" by Jeff Hertzberg MD and Zoe Francois.

Incredible recipe - easier than to bake a cake from a box... I don't know if I will ever buy bread again! This will be so addictive, I worry about our weight... You don't really mix much, you don't knead anything, dump the dough into a container, put it to the fridge... take out next day, bake some... put the rest in the fridge... bake again later... I dare to say - it is FUN!

Unfortunately our oven's heating element probably broke about 20 minutes into baking... Luckily this loaf was almost done - it could just use a little bit more of color...

The authors have their own website - www.artisanbreadinfive.com/ - and also quite a following on flickr. There is even a group about it here. I had this cookbook for about a year now - finally got the courage to try it. Why did I wait so long? LOL

FIVE MINUTE ARTISAN BREAD

THE MASTER RECIPE - BOULE (ARTISAN FREE FORM LOAF)

=================================================

Note: This recipe must be prepared in advance.

* 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated yeast (about 2 packets)

* 1 1/2 tablespoons kosher salt

* 6 1/2 cups unbleached flour, plus extra for dusting dough

* cornmeal

In a large plastic resealable container, mix yeast and salt into 3 cups lukewarm

(about 100 degrees) water. Using a large spoon, stir in flour, mixing until

mixture is uniformly moist with no dry patches. Do not knead. Dough will be wet

and loose enough to conform to shape of plastic container. Cover, but not with

an airtight lid.

Let dough rise at room temperature, until dough begins to flatten on top or

collapse, at least 2 hours and up to 5 hours. (At this point, dough can be

refrigerated up to 2 weeks; refrigerated dough is easier to work with than room

temperature dough, so the authors recommend that first time bakers refrigerate

dough overnight or at least 3 hours.)

When ready to bake, sprinkle cornmeal on a pizza peel. Place a broiler pan on

bottom rack of oven. Place baking stone on middle rack and preheat oven to 450

degrees, preheating baking stone for at least 20 minutes.

Sprinkle a little flour on dough and on your hands. Pull dough up and, using a

serrated knife, cut off a grapefruit size piece (about 1 pound). Working for 30

to 60 seconds (and adding flour as needed to prevent dough from sticking to

hands; most dusting flour will fall off, it's not intended to be incorporated

into dough), turn dough in hands, gently stretching surface of dough, rotating

ball a quarter turn as you go, creating a rounded top and a bunched bottom.

Place shaped dough on prepared pizza peel and let rest, uncovered, for 40

minutes. Repeat with remaining dough or refrigerate it in lidded container.

(Even one day's storage improves flavor and texture of bread. Dough can also be

frozen in 1 pound portions in airtight containers and defrosted overnight in

refrigerator prior to baking day.) Dust dough with flour.

Using a serrated knife, slash top of dough in three parallel, 1/4 inch deep cuts

(or in a tic tac toe pattern). Slide dough onto preheated baking stone. Pour 1

cup hot tap water into broiler pan and quickly close oven door to trap steam.

Bake until crust is well browned and firm to the touch, about 30 minutes. Remove

from oven to a wire rack and cool completely.

Fair warning : those scripts use a lot of the cpu activity, if you'd like something lighter, i remember seeing other scripts via searching google.

The words in the backgroug (Files, Hardware, RSS, Music, etc)

I've saved one document for each word in textedit (make sure your doc is saved in plain text)

Then I made new shells and I used the command "cat" to "call" the documents.

Looks like this :

cat /Users/ME/Documents/Geektool/music.txt

Be sure to get the right file path to your document.

Don't forget the space between "cat" and the file path.

Cal of next shows

same technique as above. I saved my calendars in a plain text document and I used the "cat" command to "call" them.

With this technique you need to update manually your calendars in the plain text document.

I've seen simpler techniques using iBuddy and exporting your iCal events, I'm sure you'll find something searching Google.

Cherry Coke, is terribly addictive :)

Shot and edited with iPhone 3G (cropped with Picnik)

Long before its official introduction in 1982, many diners and drugstore soda fountains dispensed an unofficial version of Cherry Coke by adding cherry-flavored syrup to the Coca-Cola mix, this drink is called Cherry Cola.

Coca-Cola itself did not produce Cherry Coke until 1982, when it introduced its version to a test audience at the 1982 World's Fair. The drink then entered mainstream production in 1985. Cherry Coke, which by 2007 had been renamed Coca-Cola Cherry in the U.S. and some other countries, was the third variation of Coca-Cola at that time – the others being classic Coke and Diet Coke – and the first flavored Coke. Diet Cherry Coke was introduced in 1986, and renamed "Diet Coke Cherry" in 2005. A second low-calorie version, Coca-Cola Cherry Zero (based on Coca-Cola Zero), was added in 2007.

The Coca-Cola Company would later introduce other flavored Coke variants, beginning with Vanilla Coke in May 2002, later followed by lime, raspberry, lemon, Black Cherry Vanilla and orange variants. Many of these are currently only sold in overseas markets or are microdispensed through Coca-Cola's Freestyle vending machines.

In the summer of 2008, Coca-Cola Cherry was named "The Official Drink of Indiana University's Bloomington campus."

Coca-Cola Cherry has been offered in a number of different countries. Currently, in addition to the U.S., the drink is available in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, Germany, France, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Peru. It is also available in both Brazil and Japan, but is still known as Cherry Coke in those countries. It is available in Ireland through British pharmaceutical chains such as Boots and Superdrug.

In the past the product has been offered in Canada, Spain, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. It is no longer bottled in these countries, apparently due to poor sales, although the U.S. product is imported by some Canadian convenience stores near the Canada-U.S. border, as well as by the Australian retailer USA Foods.

Since January 2011, Coca-Cola Cherry is also available in Switzerland distributed by Coop.

Packaging for Coca-Cola Cherry differs greatly from country to country. In most areas, the current can and bottle label designs are based on the standard Coca-Cola label in a pink or purple hue, often with images of cherries. In the U.S., a more intricate design is currently used.

On February 7, 2007, Coca-Cola officially launched a new campaign for the Coca-Cola Cherry brand in the U.S. Jay-Z was chosen to be the spokesman and played a part in designing the new can graphics. A new diet version, Coca-Cola Cherry Zero, was also introduced, although the original Diet Coke Cherry will remain available in 12-packs.

Gum Bichromate = frustrating & addictive.

Still struggling with the process. Hard to learn on your own, I think. At least for me. Here, I scanned a good quality glass plate negative from about 1905, inverted and printed on transparency. Arches fine 140# paper. Emulsion the mix of potassium bichromate, gum arabic (liquid) and guache (yellow and a tiny bit of black; good quality). Exposed under ultraviolet light. Immersed in warm water bath. This is just a straight scan without adjustments. Somewhere I am doing something wrong. I cant seem to get the detail, contrast and color intensity of some of the other photos in the pool. I'll keep trying! Advice appreciated. Back to the book for now.

The Hofstra Cultural Center and the Hofstra Food Studies Program present The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food. Michael Moss, an investigative journalist, talks about his reporting on the processed food industry that earned him a Pulitzer Prize and led to his writing a pair of New York Times bestselling books. His work has been likened to a detective story in the way that he crawls through the underbelly of this $1 trillion enterprise to reveal just how the food giants got us to become so dependent on their products, and stands as an urgent indictment of that same industry given the enormous hidden cost to our health. You may never look at potato chips or Cheetos or Hot Pockets the same way again.

"Angry Birds isn't just an addictive game, it's an unexpected source of wisdom." ~David DiSalvo

Little story behind this...... while on a vacation a few months ago my oldest son stayed behind to work & "hold down the fort"! While he was here alone, 2 sparrows flew into the house after he had opened the front door to retrieve a package. Unbeknownst to me, he is AFRAID of birds! And, to top it off, he's the last of the great hunters so none of it made sense when he called us up thousands of miles away panicking & wondering what he should do. He didn't want to hear what we thought he should do so he quickly hung up. Of course, all I could think about was how messy those two birds might be and could only imagine what might happen in the house! Fortunately, our good friend & neighbor headed over and took care of it in 2 minutes flat! So, I now refer to my son as "Jack Sparrow" & I picked up this ink pen as a souvenir from our trip for him to put on his desk!
