The one with the most perfect acoustics

The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air. -Eric Sloane-

"A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves

with each step I made. The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed,

are as crisp as autumn air."

Eric Sloane

Had a nice walk around the lake at our local park this morning...until... I came across a Canada Goose sat by the lake, with what looked like a crossbow bolt through its head...quite distressing to see. I rang the RSPCA as soon as I got home. They sent an inspector out to investigate, she updated me later ...the goose flew onto the lake when she approached it, but looked like it might be coping ok and eating...for now. They will follow it up over the next few days and make a decision on whether or not to try and catch it.....

there are some sick people out there who get a kind of warped pleasure from injuring innocent creatures...:-(

update re Goose...It was eventually caught by the RSPCA who seem fairly confident that after the bolt is removed...it should be ok and will be resettled in a swan rescue centre....well done to the RSPCA who follow up and don't give up when an incident of animal cruelty is reported!!

Fingal’s Cave - Staffa

Fingal's Cave is a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staffa, it is known for its natural acoustics. The National Trust for Scotland owns the cave as part of a national nature reserve. It became known as Fingal's Cave after the eponymous hero of an epic poem by 18th century Scottish poet and historian James Macpherson.

To get to this point a small boat drops you off at a stone jetty which is buffeted by the Atlantic waves, it’s then a case of walking along the basalt rock formations for around 100 yards before you reach the entrance and viewing platform. The boat goes away and leaves you on the island for around an hour and a quarter, it then returns to collect you. Well worth the trip but not if you have any mobility issues.

There is a lot of information about the cave here:-

Guitarist Libor Smoldas, played with pianist and vocalist Jakub Zomer, one of the best known jazz musicians in Prague in a large church (1931) in Smichov. They played for swing dancers. I've seen Libor in Toronto several years ago. Together we figured out, it was 10 years ago. He came then for mini concert tour; two of the 4 venues are no longer available for concerts. I had seen Jakub Zomer first time in Little Glenn Club. The acoustics in the church were pretty good, but the lighting was atrocious, so I only upload one photo, which I had to manipulate to get something visually palatable. I did not find out the name of the sax player, maybe, I still will.

This is Big Hogan alcove / amphitheater. We are south of Thunderbird Mesa on private Tribal land. Oftentimes the Tour Guides will play Navajo flute and drums and sing traditional Navajo songs. The acoustics are excellent and the setting is spectacular. There is a big hole in the roof and you can see the light on the wall.

This is the view looking out from inside the alcove.

naturalarches.org/gallery/AZbighogan.htm

Big Hogan is a cave natural arch eroded in DeChelly sandstone. It is located very close to Moccasin Arch. It is one of several nice arches which are included in the commercial Monument Valley tours that go to the area south of the self-guided loop drive. This arch is within the boundaries of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and a Navajo guide is required for any visitation.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_Valley#:~:text=Monument%20...

Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, pronounced [tsʰépìːʔ ǹtsɪ̀skɑ̀ìː], meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor.[1] It is located on the Utah-Arizona state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley is a sacred area that lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation, the Native American people of the area.[2]

Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his Westerns; critic Keith Phipps wrote that "its five square miles [13 square kilometers] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West."[3]

Eine meiner ganz alten Akustik-Gitarren. Sie ist sehr schwer zu spielen .. aber sie hat einen unwiderstehlichen Charme.

One of my very old acoustic guitars. It is very difficult to play .. but it has an irresistible charm.

The colour rendition of my Visual Acoustics VIII - New York City Sunrise image.

More colour work to come.

Facebook or any other photo sharing site on the Internet doesn't do justice to my panoramic images. Even more, no photo sharing site does do justices to my images at all. Best to see them live, for example at the Rotella galleries in NYC and Las Vegas where you can see my images in sizes up to almost 100 inches (2.5 meters).

My specific iSGM b&w workflow can also be used for processing color images. Want to know how: check From Basics to Fine Art - B&W photography- architecture and beyond that you can see here , written by me and co-author Julia Anna Gospodarou.

My images are processed to be printed large. A collection of my work can be seen as large format prints at the Rotella galleries in NYC and Las Vegas.

Each shot taken with the Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters, totalling 16 stops per image and each image with a long exposure time of around 6 minutes.

acoustics @ nature

Designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, this arts centre has enjoyed a new lease of life since it reopened in 2015. The main auditorium has been refitted, the acoustics improved and the square outside redesigned. The programme is packed with nationally recognised theatre productions, and dance and music events. The Petit Volcan has been completely transformed into a stunning library.

“I like those older theaters – the acoustics are perfect, I mean, you just have that feel of there’s been a thousand shows in there and now you get to be one.” Billy Gardell.

In my previous Epidaurus Theatre photograph, I already mentioned the perfect acoustics of this amazing Ancient Greek building. Beyond the architectural beauty of this monument, with its well-preserved stands, being lucky enough to hear a performance here is quite an experience in itself. Although the theater is still used today for the performance of ancient Greek plays, none were scheduled during our visit to the Peloponnese.

However, I was able to enjoy the beautiful voice of my wife singing from the center of the scene, which together with the photographs and videos that we were able to capture, was the perfect show for our story.

Another one from the family album. Dr Clarion's legendary acoustics lectures were dreaded by generations of hung over students.

Oh, and as a late edit, take a look here. I saw this film a long time ago and this scene stayed with me.

Picture this moment... it's a hot sunny summer's day. You are just aimlessly wondering through the beautifully located ruins of 13th Century Castle. Then you hear the the violin.... They are playing 'Tears in Heaven' right there in the chapel...The acoustics is amazing...

Yes.

Shot with Fuji X-Pro 1 and Fujinon 50 mm f/1.9 vintage glass.

One. of the best acoustics that I have ever heard in a concert hall. The architecture is outstanding in every way, as is the performance of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra who are based here.

"Captain visits a Hoth trench, and takes a look at the conditions in the trenches before the Battle"

Echo Base was the settlement established by the Rebel Alliance on the frigid planet of Hoth in the wake of the Battle of Yavin, so named due to its strange acoustics.

Less than a month after its establishment, the base was discovered by the Galactic Empire who then invaded Hoth, forcing the Rebels to evacuate.

Thanks to Laurent Martres for pointing out this magical place in his book Photographing the Southwest: Vol. 1, Southern Utah. His books should be considered essential gear on any trip into the Four Corners states. This slot is in Long Canyon on the Burr Trail but is easily missed. Inside, the acoustics are excellent. Sing or take an instrument in here for an inspiring experience.

Ah yes... Back to the waters of Lake Michigan. A setting sun ushers in the completion of another day. Annoyed by swarms of bugs, my visit would be rather brief. I hope these pest don't destroy too many folk's enjoyment of this special place.
