Peninsula Valdés intrudes into the Atlantic Ocean along parallel 42°S. This peninsula joins the continent through a narrow span of land known as Istmo Ameghino. Its characteristic shape is created by two large, shallow gulfs formed by geological depressions: Golfo San José, on the north side, and Golfo Nuevo, on the South. Whales, elephant seals, penguins and sea lians find refuge in the waters and beaches of this Natural Reserve that UNECSO declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 - Peninsula Valdes, Patagonia, Argentina
