thanks to jeffwithtwof's for the inspiration for this shot. the camera seemed to overexpose the shot a little bit, however.

Polaroid TZ Artistic Film (09/09)

So recently, I splurged on the auction site to win a Polaroid CB-70 Land Camera Back. This is a film holder for Polaroid Integral Film, Type 600. The units were probably intended for various scientific applications, however they may be modified or adapted to the camera of your choice. Others have attempted this with Large format 4x5 cameras, Pinholes, and the highly popular Polaroid 600SE medium format rangefinder camera. I opted to journey down the path of the Mamiya Universal Press, being I have a greater selection of lenses for this system versus the single 127mm lens that I have for my Polaroid 600SE.
For those that ask "But why?" The answer is fairly simple. Control! Instead of being limited by the fixed lens, fixed aperture, and narrow shutter speeds of your typical Polaroid instant camera, you may paint your light on your Polaroid film using your Pro gear, achieving a result that is not dictated. Yeah...that's it!
Anyway, I will edit this later.
Here is the first test. Note that the image is backwards(horizontally) as well as upside down. The goal is to eliminate the unexposed area (black bar) without modifying the camera. I first thought that this was blockage from the mounting frame, however after further testing with my Polaroid 600SE, using a different frame, I believe that this omission of light is from the light baffle internal to the camera. These devices were intended to cover only 3¼ x 4¼ inches (8,5 x 10,8 cm). Polaroid Type 600 integral film has an image size of only 8 x 7.7 cm, however the challenge is due to the physical placement of the CB-70 in respect to the camera's bodily obstructions.

I started a tradition in the autumn of 2009 of combining a series of Polaroids with a set of songs for the fall Polaroid Week. Here is this year's series.
autumnsongs (2010) track 1:

album: famous places
A streaming mix of the songs can be found here: www.mixcloud.com/mrkvm/autumnsongs-2010/

I didn't realize I had bought some Edge Cut ATZ film, but I think the horizontal "seam" works with these landscapes.

I lifted the title from one of the best sports quotes of all time. That was actually a description of Bobby Thomson's famous Shot Heard 'Round the World, the most important home run pretty much ever.
I wanted at least one Polaroid of a world series game and, silly me, I didn't even think to bring the Spectra. The shot would have been better. I'm not crazy about big scenes with the SX-70 and the Spectra's wide format would have been cooler. I can't believe it's been a whole week since a saw a winning freaking world series game. Crazy crazy crazy.
And, of course, I had to go and smear the title. Sheesh.

Overcome time, and all we have left is Now. And in the middle of Here and Now, don't you think that we might see each other once or twice?"
