I decided to take a picture of how people would see them posing behind the national geographic frame. What I found interesting is how the little kids would grab onto the frame, two-handed, and pop their little heads behind it as if a built in national geographic mechanism said to do that.
A triptych of three refractograms using light from an LED torch refracted/reflected at right angles by the base of a faceted whisky tumbler onto a Sony A7Rii sensor (no lens fitted).

60074 "Braeriach" - 6G18 (0336 Tho or SX? STP Merry-go-round coal train from Toton New Bank, which was formed of c36 empty HAAs & departed 11 minutes early at 0325) - Silverdale Colliery - morning (0854?) - 01/06/95.
Silverdale Colliery (c1830 to 1998) was the last deep pit in North Staffordshire coal field, producing over 1 miliion tonnes until it's closure three years later!
A couple of 70's make easy work as they switch the yard at Whittier on a soggy summer day in Alaska.
A cruise train is making good time as they race cars along the Seward Highway. The train will take a left hand turn at Portage and wait their turn to swing through the Whittier Tunnel.
Due to an overturned semi, the train would make better time to Whittier than we would.
Alaska is simply amazing.
In my previous post I showed the rail train approaching this location. After the train passed me by I turned 180 degrees and captured this shot of the caboose. Once upon a time I did this for every train now very infrequently, unfortunately.

As has become common at the holidays the Alaska Railroad will run a train between Anchorage and Indian. Usually two in a day that is geared towards the children. In this case Easter. Parents and children board the train in Anchorage and en route to Indian the crew provide fun crafts and activities to keep the children entertained. On this day the weatherman predicted partly sunny skies turning to clouds by early afternoon. I figured I would try my had at the 10 AM departure, seen here about MP 93 about 5 miles from Indian. Good thing too as my the time the 3 PM departure left the depot is was plenty gray.

Sold in 2009 to Batenus Trading Inc (Nautilus Shipping Overseas, managers) and renamed RAMUS. Arr Mariel, Cuba 28 January 2017 for breaking.

A loaded coal train rolls easily through the overnight snowfall as the sun rises on this morning along Turnagain Arm a few miles south of Anchorage

After a nice snowfall the export coal train heads south at Girdwood, AK. It is amazing how the snow deadens the sound around me. The train was stealthy.
