This aircraft routed in from Addis Ababa with a replacement engine for a company 787-8 Dreamliner which returned to Dublin the previous day with a engine failure while operating the Addis Ababa - Dublin - Los Angeles flight

Its hard to believe but it was 40 years ago that XA1408 & XA1406 ran on the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) X class 30th Anniversary tour to York on April 29th 1984. We felt that this anniversary could not be forgotten as the withdrawal of the X, XA & XB classes was well underway with 29 of the 48 out of service by this date. I was heavily involved in the running of this tour and its fitting that my mate Joe Moir painted the headboard and the photo was taken by mate Jim Bisdee. Jim also helped me in the background in the running of the tour. Pre-arranged with the loco crew at York I hitched a ride with Jim to take photos to Northam, where I got back on the train at Avon Yard. Photo: The X class had been idling for a long period and they were able to finally be opened up on the climb through Mount Lawley luckily Jim Bisdee was there to get this photo. RIP Joe and Jim.

Having got the domestic stuff out of the way, I went to Rosewood to see if I could do something with a level crossing I'd come across earlier in the year. I originally had in mind doing something along the lines of this image, as these are the oddest level crossing signs I'd ever seen. But getting out there this evening, that magnificent tree on the right demanded attention, so I set up for this view. Shorrly after setting the flashes up, the train came into view more or less on time. So here it is crossing Lane Road just to the west of Rosewood, getting a cheery wave from an onlooker. This is a multiple image - one for the train, one for the self-portrait (wardrobe kindly supplied by the House of Dag!) and another for the stars. 17 September 2017.
