I would have never known that Beach's Market, the one that stands there today was once referred to as a Farmers Market. This is aerial shots shows alot of different buildings here. Does anyone know what was where? Please note. I know the street running parallel is Imperial Hwy. 7908 E. Imperial Hwy to be exact. I believe Max Beach's son still owns Beach's.

this grocery store was in the Stonewood mall back when it was outdoors. I don't know exactly how the set up was back then but I know the entrance for the market that I remember being there( it wasn't Shopping Bag) was right around where the Warehouse is today. This picture looks to have been taken right around where JCPenny's is. The cornere where there was a cleaners in this picture I remember as Farrell's Ice Cream parlour.

I'm pretty sure this was the Downey Music Center. They just took out the TV and added Center back in the 70's I guess. I'll post the sign that is still up at there one time location on Downey Ave. Crazy to know this was a record store at one time. Where did the TV's fit in though?

Now I know what was here years ago. This building still stands and is now a hamburger stand. I remember it as a Tastee Freez but here is what it was back in the 60's and 70's. I'll post up the shot of how it looks now here as well. This character they have for their business looks pretty cool. At 9841 E. Imperial Hwy in Downey,CA.

probably the coolest park that I remember as a kid. It was a toss up between this one and Heritage Park in the City of Cerritos. Lot of cool structures and imagination went into this park. Here you can see the castle. You could go up to the top of each corner of the castle and walk along the top. You can see the lookout part of it as well. I found some other images of this park in these books as well.

I know longer get my hair cut there as I don't have anymore to cut off( I use a bic) but I bring my boys here. Al calls me Mr. Mom as he would see me walking down the street with 3 kids in tow passing by the shop. I started going there probably when I was around 11 or 12. After Buds barber shop on Imperial closed. Dave was the first one to move on, then Rudy sold the shop to one of the barbers who is there now. Al is still there though and the shop still remains Mr. Rudy's.

I think they used to teach piano. Don't know if they taught accordion but I think there was also a Yamaha music school up in N. Downey on Florence as I think I recall passing it when I went to accordion lessons. And I know I wasn't the only one taking these lessons in the 70's. I remember them going door to door.

 

I remember going here as a kid. This is now a teacher supply store. As stated in the booklet.."Downey's only hardware store. Owner Clarence Kropach welcomes you at 12157 S. Paramount Blvd." Long before National Lumber, All American , Home Depot, Lowe's,etc. Now I know where the "K" comes from.
