One of several shots of a trip I took into the Andes north of Cochabamba (Bolivia) in September 1974 with my stepson Augusto and my brother-in-law Nelson and his compadre, whose home is seen in this image. It is at an altitude of somewhere over 14,000 ft (according to Google Earth).
Los estudios que se ocupan de la cubierta de nieve apuntan a una tendencia decreciente general durante los dos últimos decenios, vinculada a la subida de las temperaturas. La pérdida de nieve ha sido especialmente importante en la parte central y en las faldas orientales de los Andes (Saavedra et al. 2018). En los Andes meridionales, la lÃnea de nieve también está subiendo. Se observan fluctuaciones interanuales bastante pronunciadas y existe un vÃnculo convincente con el ENSO, aunque resulta difÃcil realizar previsiones a largo plazo (Malmros et al., 2018).

Photos here Jan.18 Punta Arenas, Chile. Chile's most southerly city, situated by the Strat of Magellan on the Brunswick Peninsula. Originally founded as a penal clony in Chile in 1848. Was a major port before Panama Canal built. A blend of Crotian, German, English, Italian and other European influences. Apparently one of the windiest places on Earth.
Drove through city to the slopes of the Patagonian Andes. Thn took a ski lift to the mountain top, and then hiked dwn through spectacular vistas of a wooded forest. Drive back through the city to the ship.
Just one of the countless sharp peaks so typical of the Andes Mountains. This view looks towards a large volcano.
Ollantaytambo is a village in the Sacred Valley of south Peru, set on the Urubamba River amid snow-capped mountains. It's known for the Ollantaytambo ruins, a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces on a hillside. Major sites within the complex include the huge Sun Temple and the Princess Baths fountain.
