I have no idea what the species is, but this iguanid is making a living at high altitude in the ruins at Machu Picchu.

The Andes Cloud Forest is one of the 5 ecological zones of Ecuador. As a humid temperate forest, it characterized by its more stunted trees (and thicker canopy), cooler climate, and different bird and plant composition, than the tropical rain forest. It is one of the world’s bio-diversity hotspots.

There are two criteria to qualify as a hotspot - a rich biodiversity that is under threat, with a significant portion of it lost.

“Although relatively small in size, the Ecuador Cloud Forests are considered the single richest hotspot on the planet, containing approximately 15-17% of the world's plant species and nearly 20% of its bird diversity.

While Ecuador covers only 1.6% of South America, it is home to almost 50% of the bird species on the continent (1,515 out of 3,100). “

Richland County. The Andes School building still stands at the junction of county roads 143 and 332. Named for Samuel Andes, a lay minister with the RLDS Church and the first postmaster, the Andes area was first settled about 1912. The Andes post office opened in 1914 and was initially located in a corner of the local blacksmith shop. A store and post office building was later built just west of the Andes School building. The post office lasted until 1964; the school building and the former dance hall are all that remain of Andes today.

This old outhouse sits behind the old Andes school. It's not too far away from the school but I imagine that in winter it probably felt pretty far to walk!

Andes, designed by Daniel Hernández, is a display typeface that has neo-humanist characteristics. Its different terminals, among other elements, give it a look of mixed typography. It comprises 8 variants, ranging from Thin to Black, each of the same x-height. This typeface contains additional italic glyphs (a, y, z, g) that help to emphasise text or words.

Andes is based on the design of Merced and both of them share several features.

This type is well-suited for use in retail, magazines, logotypes, books, etc.
