Colas Rail Class 70 No.70814 is seen powering through Ais Gill with 6J37 Carlisle Yard - Chirk Kronospan loaded logs train.

In pouring rain, LNER Gresley K4 2-6-0 No 61994 'The Great Marquess', approaches the summit at Ais Gill with the southbound 'Fellsman'.
A re-working of a shot taken back in 2012.
44932 lifts the Waverley towards Ais Gill summit ,Wild Boar fell and Mallerstang valley prominent in the background .
A class 40,now known to be 40143,struggles to the summit with a southbound freight on a cold 20/4/1983

4th April 1998 and 6024 struggles up the final section to Ais Gill summit. I decided to mend this negative, it was very damaged , as upon second look I like the man with the child and the people looking out of the windows as well as the line of cars in the distance. Yup it is a grainy as they come but for me it sums up the mood and thought of the struggle.

LNER Gresley A4 Pacific 4-6-2 No 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' approaches the summit at Ais Gill working 1Z08, the late running 16.32 Carlisle - Crewe 'Fellsman'
Organised by Saphos Trains and operated by LSL.
The train was some 18 mins late at this point due to following a late running Carlisle - Leeds service.
With temperatures around 23 degrees, there wasn't going to be a great deal of exhaust, but the sight of the blue Pacific was worthwhile!
