Strobist info:
The scene was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights placed at 8- and 4-o'clock CL/CR, one foot above and two-feet away from the subject. The speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ ½ power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.
The SB900s were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus Xs.
Lens: reverse-mounted Nikon EL – Nikkor 50mm/f2.8 attached to bellows extended to 44mm.
Second go at doing this, stuffed a whisk full of steel wool and set it alight with a 9volt battery then spun the whisk around on a bit of sting, it creates this cool effect
Top view of a nine-volt rectangular battery. They have several designations depending upon ANSI/NEDA vs. IEC numbering and upon battery chemistry (see tags).
I took a steel wool pad and wrapped some wire around it. Then took a 9volt battery and rubbed it on the pad then started swinging it around to get this effect live.

For those wondering, the custom Winter Village Tram I designed last year, is compatible with the 9 volt train motor/wheel chassis, if anyone is interested in powering it. Sadly Power Functions conversion is not doable as there is no room for both passengers and a battery box. So anyone that is still holding on to the 9v or the 12v train Lego stuff, you are in luck.
Image shown is a digital render comparison of the non-powered (left) and 9v Lego train motor powered (right) versions of my Winter Village tram. The change does bring the wheels closer together by 2 studs, but it still runs nicely.
Instructions are also available for purchase through this Rebrickable page for a nominal $5 fee. Over at Rebrickable you can see the parts inventory to build one. Sourcing parts is best done through Bricklink wanted list feature, unless you already have many of the parts. The 9 volt chassis that is compatible with the electrified metal tracks is Bricklink part 590, same motor that powered the 10173 Holiday Train from 2006.
The non-powered version is also available for purchase as a kit through my partner's store over at Constructibles
See my Winter Village Tram album for more pictures
Also here is a blog review of it from last year over at The Brick Blogger
Lastly, the tram is compatible with the custom Winter Village Train station that will be available shortly, also through Constructibles's store.
Nov. 2 2016 Update: 9volt supplement instructions are completed now and will be provided with the standard instructions. Also a Power Functions model is now completed and instructions will be made this month.
It's taken much longer than anticipated trying to figure out my printer, graphic software, cricut machine and different vinyls, but I finally settled on a printed orange that is as close as I can get to Lego orange.

Originally my layout was to be 9volt metalled rail but as FX-Bricks won't export to the UK due to Brexit being blamed yet it's basically them not wanting to bother with the new tax laws, shame really but its their loss. I therefore had to rethink the whole project. Sad thing is I will now no longer have motorised locos as all my designs are based around the 9v system.
The cross points are by Trixbrix which work very well and as far as I know (please tell me in comments if this is still true?)are still sold to us here in the UK.

These were made by me on the back patio..
“Immature Photography” in comments has kindly pre-empted my posting of this with various links on Light Domes..
As the links show this was a closely guarded secret by the very clever inventor of this light painting technique but the internet doesn’t hold a secret for long.
I used an old bicycle wheel, fifteen 3volt LED’s, two 9volt batteries, a 12V switch, some wire and tape plus a length of threaded rod.
I fixed a length of threaded rod through the axle housing with a lock nut either side so that it protrudes on one side to a distance roughly equal to the wheel radius and about 100mm the other side.. this is where you mount the switch.
Wire the batteries in series i.e. Pos to Neg To Pos to Neg so the output is 18Volts then wire the 3volt LED’s into 3 separate groups of 5 and connect to the batteries via the switch.
Space the LED’s around the rim evenly and wire them in groups to the batteries via the on/off switch.
My Method..
Wear dark clothing, mark out on the ground where you want to centre the domes, set the camera for remote shutter and in bulb mode, set the focus manually, use a low ISO (200) and a smallish aperture..around f/14, place the wheel with the lights away from the camera, i.e. long axle pointing at camera, fire the shutter, switch the lights on and give the wheel one or two ground rotations then turn it off. Repeat procedure for as many light domes as you like then close the shutter.

7w, bracket-and-tile style. Fits 4 whole ghostbusters and 1 battery box. 9V powered police lights and sound. 100% Lego.
Now this can be called a co-operative MOC, since full credit for the whole 9V technical unit (plus roof and ghostbusters greeble) goes to my dear friend Brucewaynelego-Toyshansolo, see www.flickr.com/photos/brucewaynelego/5007406835/in/set-72.... Since he had already found an ingenious solution for the main problem, I just had to transplant it into a new car body.
The cab can be detached to get the figs in and out of the car.

First try at making Steel Wool Orbs (kids Don't Try This At Home). This basically involves stuffing a metal whisk with some steel wool, connect it to a chain or cable, light it with a lighter or 9volt battery and spin in circles until it has completely burned out. Kind of fun to try, but not recommended in dry climates because this stuff will set anything off if your not careful.

No 50007 Sir Edward Elgar had an unusual livery applied when unveiled at Paddington on the 25th February 1984, to mark the 50th anniversary of the composers death, that of Great Western lined green with cast brass GWR badge, nameplate, number plate and double arrow logos applied under the non-driving side cab window.
I have to say if only BR had done more of these types of liveries at the time it would really have given this otherwise dull and boring livery era a real splash of nostalgiic colour.
My MOC has a 9volt motor fitted and seems to run well if a little temperamental over points. The grills I would have prefer to be in Earth green to match the body colour but I'm unable to source them.... how I miss Bluebrixx.
Thanks to Cuusoo/Ideas the Ecto is complete now. Those printed parts are really amazing. It fits all four, but not the equipment, alas - the battery box takes all the room. Anyhow, the set is fantastic.

Like a million deadly kisses
the needles dance across my skin.
That delicious buzz
fills the air and that 9volt taste
slides across the back of my tongue.
