The Midway switch job uses a pair of former Santa Fe C44-9Ws to shove a cut of intermodal into Union Yard. Both locomotives, BNSF 642 and 641, recently had remote control equipment installed at Mid-America Car in Kansas City and have been demoted to yard service. Only some of these RCL Dash 9s have been repainted, however. The era of Dash 9 switch engines is now upon us.

Two ratty looking Metro North FL-9s are in charge of a Brewster, Ny. to GCT commuter train on the morning of 10-21-83. The sun still hasn't cleared the hills to burn off the morning frost. Sorry about the poor picture quality as the low light condition required a slow shutter speed. To have had the cameras of today back then would have been amazing.

For the first time in nearly two years, NS 255 brought another Warbonnet leader to the Lafayette District from Detroit. After hearing about this at 1 AM the night prior, I knew I needed to cram in as much work as possible before the next morning to run out to photograph it. BNSF #769 led the train to Lafayette; it is one of a few Dash 9s painted in the Warbonnet scheme with some more modern BNSF logos applied. Seeing this unit run solo on a roadrailer harkens back to a different era when both this type of train and this paint scheme were significantly more abundant in railroading (3/29/24).

It was a beautiful night. The moon was full and it was low tide :)
How was your monday?
I waited in a carpark as it hailed then snowed, cold northerly wind thinking the forecast was for brighter weather in the late afternoon.
The tide started to ebb then the sky brightened and it stopped snowing. I wanted to shoot three different groynes which I managed to do in the last hour before sunset three long exposures for each groyne.
This was the final shot as the sky turned pink looking out eastward. I was very cold but happy and drove back one and half hours to where I was staying near Southwold.

I miss the days of Southern Air's 747 classics.
However this ex-LAN Cargo 777 carrying remnants of the former operator's livery was an interesting catch during an afternoon of on-and-off sunlight.

A 6-unit Galveston-Houston transfer (Y GAT1841-12A) heads into the junction at Algoa on a pleasant October evening. The track to the right is the east leg of the wye, allowing BNSF trains from Galveston to access the UP Angleton Sub.
The two trailing Dash 9s would be dropped off in the yard in Alvin just ahead.

Double CN C44-9Ws 2541 and 2658 race through Spruce Grove with a westbound grain train. It was cool to see these two in amongst the sea of GE Evolution units.

Just a few days prior to this shot, the triple set based in Hamilton was led by BNSF 2968, a GP39-3. A few days later, with the BNSF unit bad ordered, CN 4136 has joned the pair of 7000-series units. Here, with cars in tow for Sunrise Metals, the 0700 clears the diamond at Irondale on their way to work industries near Strathearne.
