The Caito family operated the Richmond whaling station, from which they would send out whaling vessels to hunt a variety of different whales, including Humpback (Megaptera novaeangliae), Finback (Balaenoptera physalus), Sperm (Physeter macrocephalus), Blue (Balaenoptera musculus), Sei (Balaenoptera borealis), and towards the latter part of their operations, Pacific grey whales ( Eschrichtius robustus). The Caito family also owned "Moby Dick", a brand through which they would manufacture whale meat for commercial sale.

The meat from the whales that were hunted out of the Richmond whaling station was primarily used for dog and cat food. The Caito family, which ran the whaling stations out of Point San Pablo, had their own pet food label, "Moby Dick". According to John Caito Sr., their biggest customer was Cal Can, a manufacturer of dog food.

Once the Juniper plants are harvested and dried, they are placed and compressed in the cookers. Purified steam then rises through the plants, releasing the essential oils into the vapor. Long tubes extending from the top of the cookers allow the vapor to condense back into oil-infused water.
