Mit etwas Glück entstand ein Sonnenbild von TEC 41158, der mit 1216 955 nach Rheinhausen unterwegs war.
It's a dreary and wet May 22nd 2016 as NS 590 puts the royal screw job into play at CP-PENN in Pittsburgh's West Commons Park. While the NS 590 pokes along down Conemaugh Line track 2 (Thanks Eric), NS 955, the westbound OCS coasts up for a brief stop at CP-PENN for traffic.
I was beyond royally pissed and frustrated about this. A great, moody, rainy day was already being ruined by sheer white skies preventing me from shooting elsewhere. So I opted for one of the only places where the sky plays a minimal role in the framing, and this happens.
This was a complete frantic grab shot to get SOMETHING since I was soaked to the bone.
It just wasn't my day.

In der letzten März Woche 2023 fuhr ich mit meinem Vater nach Österreich, genauer gesagt nach Payerbach. Das Wetter zeigte sich insgesamt leider eher von seiner schlechten Seite und so blieben sonnige Bilder am Semmering leider aus. Dafür konnte man einen Tag im Schnee fotografieren.
Am letzten Tag, den 01.04.2023 ging es vor der Heimreise noch an die Ostbahn nach Götzendorf. Ziel waren die Eurocity der MAV und ein RegioJet; Güterverkehr war natürlich auch erwünscht. Und so konnte an diesem Vormittag unerwartet das Highlight des Urlaubs abgelichtet werden:
Die 1216 955 der WLC, die für die Spedition Roland wirbt, zog den leeren Gefco Autozug aus Parma in Italien nach Trvana in der Slowakei.
Am 22. April fährt 1216 955 der Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo GmbH mit ihren Zug, auf dem Weg in Richtung Halle/Saale, durch Kyhna.
I finally heard some good news as the 955 was asked by the DS if he could get stopped at Penn for a reroute. Crap, they weren't going up the Conemaugh now were they? With no way of knowing, and my now already on the Parkway East, I stuck with Plan A and headed for East Pittsburgh where a full on cluster F was in progress with trains parked everywhere. Fortunately the 955 was run up behind a stopped 22W waiting to work Pitcairn which once cleared enabled the OCS to proceed at restricted speed.
In fresh 'BM&LP invincible' chase mode, I got greedy on Saturday morning when I found out the OCS was returning to A-town, and attempted a chase from East Conway to East Pittsburgh! I figured a good run down Rt65 with the train slowing through Bell/Penn and the station would mean I could pull it off....
Even the East Conway shot turned into a bit of an arse nipper as a westbound intermodal had just recrewed and the lead unit was about to spoil the scene from under the bridge I'm standing on..
It wasn't looking good as I sat at the super long light in Sewickley hearing the MP12 detector go off, and him call both 10.9 and 9.8 signals....!

Norfolk Southern's Office Car Special isn't a stranger to roaming the NS System, however running up the Youngstown Line? Different story. I have no recollection of when it last traversed the line but I do know that it has been a bit. Rock Point is a place i've been wanting to go to for some time now, hence me going here.

An abbreviated OCS set is northbound on the Southern Main at Rockfish, VA, crossing the river that shares the same name as the town.
NS 955 slowly rolls under the former PRR Signal bridge at Mansfield as it rolls to a meet near Crestline
very now and then the railroads will run "office car specials" through Virginia. After spending the night at the O. Winston Link museum for a special event, Norfolk Southern's OCS, symboled as train 955, ran their return to Altoona through Virginia. On Norfolk Southern's B-line, the train passed through historic Delaplane, Virginia which was originally a stop on the Manassas Gap railroad. In the lead are 2 of NS' brand new landmark series locomotives, painted in a throwback scheme that is a nod to the railroad's Norfolk and Western tuscan red heritage.
NS 955, the CNO&TP Board of Directors Special winds around the curve just south of Norwood as it heads south toward Burnside and eventually Chattanooga
