La prima tratta dell'autostrada, da Mestre a Conegliano, venne aperta al traffico il 29 settembre 1972; il successivo 1º dicembre si aprirono altri 11,1 km, da Conegliano a Vittorio Veneto, ed il 16 marzo dell'anno successivo il breve tratto terminale da Vittorio Veneto alla SS 51
L'autostrada tocca i principali centri della Marca Trevigiana (Mogliano Veneto, Treviso stessa, Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto) collegandoli rapidamente all'A4 e offrendo una più comoda alternativa alla SS 51 per chi vuole raggiungere le località turistiche delle Dolomiti. Dal 1995 è stato aperto il prolungamento che da Vittorio Veneto Nord raggiunge Pian di Vedoia (Ponte nelle Alpi).
Con quest'ultimo tratto dopo l'uscita di Vittorio Veneto Nord, l'autostrada abbandona la Pianura Padano Veneta e si addentra tra le Prealpi scavalcando con alcuni arditi viadotti la val Lapisina, superando con due gallerie la sella di Fadalto e la zona del Lago di Santa Croce e terminando quindi a Pian di Vedoia presso Ponte nelle Alpi. Da Mestre a Conegliano è a tre corsie, oltre alla corsia di emergenza.

A27 MOTORWAY TUNNEL
The first section of the motorway, from Mestre to Conegliano, was opened to traffic on 29 September 1972; on the following 1 December another 11.1 km opened, from Conegliano to Vittorio Veneto, and on 16 March of the following year the short terminal section from Vittorio Veneto to the SS 51
The highway touches the main centers of the Marca Trevigiana (Mogliano Veneto, Treviso itself, Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto), quickly connecting them to the A4 and offering a more convenient alternative to the SS 51 for those who want to reach the tourist resorts of the Dolomites. Since 1995 the extension that from Vittorio Veneto Nord reaches Pian di Vedoia (Bridge in the Alps) has been opened.
With this last stretch after the Vittorio Veneto Nord exit, the motorway leaves the Po Valley Veneta and enters the Prealps, crossing the Lapisina valley with some daring viaducts, crossing the Fadalto saddle and the lake area with two tunnels. di Santa Croce and then ending in Pian di Vedoia at Ponte nelle Alpi. From Mestre to Conegliano it has three lanes, in addition to the emergency lane.
