I've talked about this very special lady a number of times. She is 94, and despite swiss-cheese bones (remember to take your calcium, ladies!), she is healthy as a horse. She, much like my other grandmother, who is 90, is sharp as a tack. This picture is proof-positive: do you see that wall? All those ribbons come from ring tosses, bean bag tosses, and other activities in her nursing home. Those two trophies? Spelling Bee champ! What makes this even funnier to those of who have known her well: she's not a people person; in fact, in her elderly housing complex, she would refuse to go down to the common areas and spend time with "those old biddies" -- all younger than she! When she finally came to the nursing home because she was not eating -- and getting slightly delusional as a result -- she was given an anti-depressant to stimulate her appetite. I think another side effect of that medication was to make her more social!
She's a terrific lady, and like I said -- so sharp. She reads several books a week, and does crossword puzzles in between. Oh -- and devours Whitman Samplers like they are going out of style! ;-)
I'm a lucky lady to have not just this wonderful woman in my life, but the spunky genes she passed on to my mom, me, and my daughter as well. She may very well live forever!
Fresh chickpeas come in little thin-skinned green pods. There can be between 1 and 3 in each pod. It's a little early in the season so you may have fewer in the pods and they may be a bit smaller. But they'll be in season for a few weeks. More info available on One Good Meal on GapersBlok.com.

Day 94 ~ Ill Again
After his fever returned and before we’d gone to see his pediatrician on Thursday, Dominic was burning up and laying in the bed beside my office desk. I let him sleep for a while before going to the doctor.

Well 2011 sure has flown by.
That gosh darn line in the middle wasn't there when I edited this!! GRRRR
