The Cinquantenaire Park is an extensive complex of gardens, dotted with monuments and museums. The Triumphal Arch dominates the park with its three arches and is symbolic of Brussels. The entire park is designed in the "Fine Arts" style.
In 1880, for Belgium's fiftieth anniversary, only the two side buildings, the base of the colonnade, and the Triumphal Arch were built. The trees were planted in 1888.
The Cinquantenaire Park is a park in the classical "French" style. It was designed as a large rectangle geometrically intersected by beautiful rows of trees. The wide avenues frame rectangular lawns, which are bordered by trimmed laurel hedges or decorated with flowerbeds and sculptures.
Beyond the museums, the park forms a triangle around a large reservoir with several fountains. The right-hand side of the park focuses on social life. The left section is more suitable for walking and relaxing, with benches, trussed lime trees, and green spaces.
About fifteen trees in the Cinquantenaire Park have been included on the list of remarkable trees of the Brussels-Capital Region.
Restoration work has been underway in the Cinquantenaire Park since 2005. The program aims to develop the Cinquantenaire Park into a Brussels "Central Park": a high-quality green space with numerous possibilities in the heart of the European Quarter.
Here's that Canvasback, the lifer bird I posted about 10 days ago. Since it was SO far away in the middle of the small pond, I wanted another crack at it with bigger better glass. But the next day, it was gone. Then I heard it was back, so today I tried again. There it was, right in the middle of the pond again, AND it was windy. This time though, I used my 600 prime + 1.4x and 2x teles stacked for an effective focal length of 1680mm, and still cropped some here. More detail this time.
