It's been awhile since I posted a bird photo. I thought some of you might be getting tired of dragons and damsels. But this is a one day break in routine. Odonata season will end in a month and has been slowing for the past two weeks. Today (through now Thursday), we have another "oppressive heat" warning with temps in the low hundred and humidity 85%. I physically can't handle that. If variety is the spice of life, you got a wildflower, landscape, dragonfly, and now, this Green Heron.
I was thinking back two years, the last time we were in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. I went into the archives, and found a Green Heron to polish off the first "foursome" ever.
This image was taken at the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area. I held back because I really wanted that extra little piece of tree trunk on the left, but it is what it is. And, he was so beautifully captured in the morning sun, I couldn't resist. I thought I would have another chance to post a Green Heron because we *always* have Greenies here. Well, we've had one locally in two years. There are just no assurances with Mother Nature.
I may well be back to my dragonfly series tomorrow, but for today, enjoy one of my favorite birds.
