Returning with one empty centerbeam for Stimson Lumber in Priest River, ID, POVA GP10 #8325 leads the westbound Sandpoint Turn through the rock cut just east of Thama, ID. #8325 is the last unit on the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad to wear its old Illinois Central Deathstar paint, and although being the unsavory choice for others was exactly what I wanted coming out here!

Jackdaw
Coloeus monedula
This is a small black crow with a distinctive silvery sheen to the back of its head. Its pale eyes stand out from its plumage. The Jackdaw's call – a familiar hard 'tchack' – gives it its name. It will often nest in chimneys, buildings, rock crevices and tree holes.
Forgot I had two acceptable shots of the Wood Duck. The only two that are still in the bird (rather than "original") folder. What a gorgeous - and frustrating - bird he is. The frustration was just natural, but if only I had gotten there an hour earlier when the sun was still out...
