The Original Dakota Rail Dinner train with Jerry Ross at the throttle at New Germany MN on an extremely cold day.
Cruising through the neighborhood in people's front yards in Minnetonka Beach. Westbound with lumber for Lester Prairie picked up from the BN in Wayzata.
Since it's been so hot and humid, I thought I'd post a reminder of what a very cold and gloomy February day can be.
The Minnetonka Zephyr Dinner train run by Jerry Ross on the former BN "Hutch" line (now a "trail") later moved to Stillwater MN as the Minnesota Zephyr. I can still remember the bone chilling cold of those days. I especially remember looking in to the cars as they passed by and seeing people toasty warm and having a nice dinner while I was freezing on the cold and windy right of way once again questioning this hobby.
Gloomy winter days were a typical scene for the Dakota Rail Dinner train. Seen here in its earlier days running through St Bonifacius with an F unit at each end.

After passing through the small western Montana town of Townsend, a coal train with coal loaded from the Signal Peak Mine for export in Roberts Bank, British Columbia blazes west at dusk (after a heavy down pour) on Northern Pacific's route across the west now operated by regional railroad Montana Rail Link.

Found 4 more images that I took back then (almost 5 years since now) and Im still satisfied with.
This is a new version of my Reine panorama, that I took in diffrent ways that morning.
This is 4 vertical images with a 28mm lens and a warming filter stiched togheter.

This morning I watched Thomas Heaton latest video about his new camera (Hasselblad 501c/m) and how he was seeking minimalism alongside he's coast. And this image popped up in my mind from 3,5 years back when I was memorizing my coastline during winter =)

At this windy conditions in January I could barely feel my fingers.. (even with big gloves on) So with this in mind its only to enjoy the summer heat =)

The incredible lens from Zeiss 28mm f/2 ZF.2 and My of all time favorite camera Nikon FE. The film is a Fuji Velvia 50 that had expirde almost 10 years ago. (2006). And a warmingfilter 81A.

Storie:
This was the image that I had in my head and as a vision on how this trip to Lofoten should be. On the last day (morning) it has snowed over the night, and the sunrise this morning was totally incredible.
Fun storie:
I'm standing on a bridge here, just me, I was totally alone this morning. I had to work with my tripod because the time for each exposure is about 5 sec or more.
You go to the middle of this bridge to get this view. And its NOT allowed to stop your car out here. One reason is that its only made for one car a time.
But behind me a car stopped, and a man jumped out. Start shooting burst mode in any possible direction except of this one of Reine,
with a 70-200.
And as fast he jumped out, his was back in the car and drove away.
And now afterward, I'm thinking who the hell will do this..... In the most beautiful of mornings.... I'm just laughing when thinking back on that weird moment haha

Last days of autumn, and it came with a morning fog =)
Tested to have a warming filter on and it really succeeded when I compare the one without from this morning, which was much more bluish.

Sitting on a Milwaukee Road siding in Montevideo, MN, an A-B-A set of freshly painted Dakota Rail F units awaits pick-up for delivery to Millbank, SD for the start-up of the new short line railroad. Dakota Rail, which operated from 1982 to 1987, ran between Millbank and Sisseton, SD. Dakota Rail #81A is an ex-Milwaukee Road locomotive.

At the time of 06.30 that morning it was 25f or -3,9c.
It has also been snowing lightly under the early morning. Which can been seen on the rock to the right in foreground,
where little snow is still left in the rock.
When I was standing up there alone with my headlamp in the dark I was thinking about the Mountain lion I will remember (and it was not any good thoughts).
But suddenly the sun breaks through the clouds and for a minute or two there is a magical play at the sky.
I shoot a full role of 12 pictures from the same point =)
f/22 at 2sec. Using a warning filter 81A and a Nd-grad to set down the sky a little.
Stones in the foreground are lit with my headlamp under the 2 seconds long exposure.
