Frías es un municipio y ciudad de España, al norte de la provincia de Burgos, comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León. La ciudad es la cabecera del municipio, enmarcado en la comarca de Las Merindades, partido judicial de Villarcayo.
Sobre el cerro de La Muela, y cercana al ancho y caudaloso río Ebro, se constituyó un enclave estratégico de paso de dicho río, desde la época romana y sobre todo en época medieval, que unía la costa cantábrica y la meseta, dando lugar a la notable prosperidad de Frías y de su conjunto monumental.
Mantiene una estructura urbana medieval que corona el castillo de los Velasco y la iglesia de San Vicente. Los edificios mantienen un sistema constructivo en el que van adosándose entre sí. La solana del piso superior emplea toba y entramado de madera.
Junto a los municipios de Oña y Poza de la Sal conforma la mancomunidad Raíces de Castilla.
Frías is a municipality and city in Spain, north of the province of Burgos, autonomous community of Castilla y León. The city is the head of the municipality, framed in the region of Las Merindades, judicial district of Villarcayo.
On the hill of La Muela, and close to the wide and mighty river Ebro, a strategic enclave was established for the passage of said river, since Roman times and especially in medieval times, which linked the Cantabrian coast and the plateau, giving rise to the notable prosperity of Frías and its monumental complex.
It maintains a medieval urban structure that crowns the castle of the Velasco family and the church of San Vicente. The buildings maintain a constructive system in which they are attached to each other. The sunroom on the upper floor uses tuff and timber framing.
Together with the municipalities of Oña and Poza de la Sal, it forms the Raíces de Castilla commonwealth.

Marbled white butterfly - Melanargia galathea.
Refusing to come out of the shelter of the long grass. This is a first for me, never actually come across this beautiful butterfly before and it is an absolute stunner! I do hope I get to see one again and get a better shot of it, the upper wing pattern is a work of art.

Had a brilliant time in Dorset a couple of weeks ago. This photo sums up the trip really, great fun, but had to work hard to get photos!
Got up for 'sunrise', headed to Durdle Door, only to find that access is now restricted and difficult to park anywhere near, except on certain days when it's open at night for photographers. Instead headed to Kimmeridge Bay, only to find the tide was way too high and the winds just too strong. So ended up in Swanage as the next nearest place to go. Normally planning goes better than this!
It's been done brilliantly by loads of other photographers, but here's my version. Taken a little while after sunrise. Some nice cloud movement so decided to go for long exposure.

Collado de La Renclusa, La Ribagorza, Huesca, Aragón, España.
La Besurta-Collado de La Renclusa-Aigualluts-La Besurta
Esta ruta de senderismo visita uno de los parajes más bonitos del Valle de Benasque: Aigualluts. El recorrido se puede hacer sin mucho esfuerzo en cuatro horas, pero vale la pena entretenerse a cada tramo para observar con detenimiento el paisaje. Empieza y termina en el mismo lugar, el aparcamiento situado en La Besurta.
El camino discurre al principio en dirección sur, por un camino muy evidente, hasta llegar en 50 minutos al refugio de La Renclusa. Lo rodeamos (hay un poste indicador) para continuar en dirección sur hacia el collado de La Renclusa. La senda va virando hacia el este hasta alcanzar el collado, el punto más alto que alcanzaremos hoy, al que llegamos en algo menos de hora y media desde el inicio.
Seguimos por la senda en dirección este, ya en descenso, hasta el Plan de Aigualluts (dos horas y veinte minutos).
Aquí tomamos hacia la derecha para rodear el llano por un camino equipado con algunas palancas (puentecillos) que salvan los numerosos barrancos y arroyos que llegan hasta este llano.
Después de rodearlo, podemos ver a la izquierda el Forao de Aigualluts, una sima por donde se cuela el agua que baja del glaciar del Aneto para ir a dar a L'Artiga de Lin, en el vecino valle de Viella, y tributar, por tanto, al Garona y no al Ésera.
Al final del llano que encontramos a continuación podemos continuar de frente para volver a La Besurta por el camino viejo o ascender un poco a la izquierda para ir a buscar el camino de ascenso a La Renclusa.
La Besurta-Collado de La Renclusa-Aigualluts-La Besurta
This hiking route visits one of the most beautiful spots in the Benasque Valley: Aigualluts. The route can be done without much effort in four hours, but it is worth taking the time to observe the landscape in detail. It starts and ends in the same place, the car park located in La Besurta.
The path initially runs southwards, along a very obvious path, until reaching the La Renclusa refuge in 50 minutes. We go around it (there is a signpost) to continue southwards towards the La Renclusa pass. The path turns eastwards until reaching the pass, the highest point we will reach today, which we reach in just under an hour and a half from the start.
We continue along the path in an easterly direction, now descending, to the Plan de Aigualluts (two hours and twenty minutes).
Here we turn right to go around the plain on a path equipped with some levers (small bridges) that cross the numerous ravines and streams that reach this plain.
After going around it, we can see on the left the Forao de Aigualluts, a chasm through which the water that comes down from the Aneto glacier seeps to flow into L'Artiga de Lin, in the neighbouring valley of Viella, and therefore flows into the Garonne and not the Ésera.
At the end of the plain that we find below, we can continue straight ahead to return to La Besurta along the old path or ascend a little to the left to find the path that goes up to La Renclusa.

St. Blasien es una pequeña ciudad en la Selva Negra Meridional en el distrito de Waldshut en el sur de Baden-Wurtemberg, Alemania. Tenía 3702 habitantes a finales de 2011 y es conocido, principalmente, por encontrarse allí la Abadía de San Blas.
St. Blasien is a small town in the Southern Black Forest in the district of Waldshut in southern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It had 3,702 inhabitants at the end of 2011 and is best known for being home to St. Blaise's Abbey.
Monasterio de Valvanera, La Rioja, España.
El monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Valvanera es una abadía benedictina situada a las faldas de los Montes Mori y Redonda, en la sierra de la Demanda, perteneciente al municipio de Anguiano, en La Rioja (España). La abadía se halla en el valle del mismo nombre, a algo más de 1000 m sobre el nivel del mar, rodeado de espesos bosques de frondosas, y entre las cimas de los montes Pancrudos, La Rioja, Gomare y de San Lorenzo.
El monasterio acoge la advocación mariana de la Virgen de Valvanera, patrona de la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja, siendo por tanto un punto importante de peregrinaje para creyentes y de obligada visita para turistas en la región.
Actualmente está regido por cuatro monjes del Instituto del Verbo Encarnado.
La primera iglesia visigótica se construiría en el siglo X con la llegada de los primeros ermitaños, esta sería sucedida por otra prerrománica consagrada en el 1073 por el obispo Fortunio, siendo rey Sancho Garcés IV de Navarra. Tras esta se construyó una iglesia románica consagrada por Rodrigo, Obispo de Calahorra el 16 de septiembre de 1183.
La actual es del gótico tardío, de finales del siglo XIV, es de una sola nave con forma de cruz y en ella se venera a la Virgen de Valvanera, patrona de La Rioja.
Durante todo el siglo XVI se realizaron numerosas reformas sobre el edificio del claustro, aumentando las diferentes pandas, y construyendo una cámara abacial, las escaleras de acceso, la biblioteca, el refectorio, nuevas celdas, entre otras muchas reformas. Incluso se reconstruyeron por completo las cubiertas, siendo uno de los periodos de mayor actividad arquitectónica del monasterio.
Ya en el siglo XVII, se construyeron la nueva portería, las nuevas cocinas (la Cocina Santa o Cocina de San Atanasio), y uno de los elementos más característicos del monasterio, la galería porticada de la fachada sur. Esta galería contaba con 5 arcos al Sur y 3 al Oeste, generando una gran entrada protegida al monasterio, ya que el acceso a este se realizaba por su cara Oeste, no como actualmente que ser realiza por el Este. Los arcos originales estaban fechados en 1640, y eran neoclásicos de medio punto. El último de los arcos originales se derribó en 1949, para dar lugar a los actuales apuntados.
La portada de la fachada sur, y actual acceso a la hospedería, se realizó en la reforma de 1763, siendo de estilo neoclásico. Está construida con piedra toba roja, por dos pilastras toscanas y rematada por entablamento y frontón recto. Esta fachada se derribó y se volvió a construir en 1949, recolocando dicha portada.
The Monastery of Our Lady of Valvanera is a Benedictine abbey located at the foot of the Mori and Redonda Mountains, in the Sierra de la Demanda, part of the municipality of Anguiano, in La Rioja (Spain). The abbey is located in the valley of the same name, at just over 1,000 m above sea level, surrounded by dense deciduous forests, and between the peaks of the Pancrudos, La Rioja, Gomare, and San Lorenzo mountains.
The monastery embraces the Marian devotion of the Virgin of Valvanera, patron saint of the autonomous community of La Rioja, and is therefore an important pilgrimage site for believers and a must-see for tourists in the region.
It is currently governed by four monks of the Institute of the Incarnate Word.
The first Visigothic church was built in the 10th century with the arrival of the first hermits. This was followed by another pre-Romanesque church consecrated in 1073 by Bishop Fortunio, during the reign of Sancho Garcés IV of Navarre. After this, a Romanesque church was built, consecrated by Rodrigo, Bishop of Calahorra, on September 16, 1183.
The current church is late Gothic, dating from the late 14th century. It has a single nave in the shape of a cross and venerates the Virgin of Valvanera, patron saint of La Rioja.
Throughout the 16th century, numerous renovations were carried out on the cloister building, including enlarging the various galleries and constructing an abbatial chamber, the access stairs, the library, the refectory, and new cells, among many other improvements. Even the roofs were completely rebuilt, marking one of the monastery's periods of greatest architectural activity.
As early as the 17th century, the new gatehouse, the new kitchens (the Holy Kitchen or Kitchen of Saint Athanasius), and one of the monastery's most characteristic elements, the porticoed gallery on the south façade, were built. This gallery had five arches to the south and three to the west, creating a large, protected entrance to the monastery, as access was via its west face, rather than the east as is currently the case. The original arches were dated 1640 and were semicircular neoclassical. The last of the original arches was demolished in 1949, to make way for the current pointed arches.
The doorway on the south façade, and the current entrance to the guest house, was completed during the renovation of 1763 and is in the neoclassical style. It is built with red tuff stone, with two Tuscan pilasters and an entablature and a straight pediment. This façade was demolished and rebuilt in 1949, with the portal replaced.

Villoslada de Cameros es un municipio y localidad española de la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja. El término municipal, ubicado en la comarca de Cameros, tiene una población de 348 habitantes (INE 2023).
Está integrado en la comarca de Cameros, concretamente en la subcomarca de Camero Nuevo, situándose a 50 km de Logroño por la carretera N-111, que atraviesa el término municipal en el kilómetro 286.
El extenso término municipal ocupa buena parte de la cara norte de la Sierra Cebollera, que incluye el parque natural del mismo nombre. El río Iregua, que nace en el territorio, forma un profundo valle en su descenso de sur a norte, recibiendo el aporte de los numerosos arroyos de la zona y del río Mayor. Por el oeste, las sierras de Frihuela y Castejón, integradas en el Sistema Ibérico, hacen de límite, junto con la Sierra Cebollera al sur, con la provincia de Soria. En Villoslada hay un centro de interpretación del parque natural de la Sierra de Cebollera.
El techo del municipio es una enorme planicie llamada La Mesa (2168 m) que comparte con Lumbreras de Cameros. El segundo punto más elevado, que da nombre a la sierra, es el pico Cebollera (2141 m), compartido con los municipios de El Royo y Sotillo del Rincón. El núcleo urbano se alza a 1072 m sobre el nivel del mar.

The extensive municipal area occupies a good part of the northern face of the Sierra Cebollera, which includes the natural park of the same name. The Iregua River, which rises in the territory, forms a deep valley in its descent from south to north, receiving the contribution of the numerous streams in the area and the Mayor River. To the west, the Frihuela and Castejón mountain ranges, integrated into the Iberian System, form a limit, together with the Sierra Cebollera to the south, with the province of Soria. In Villoslada there is an interpretation centre for the Sierra de Cebollera natural park.
The highest point of the municipality is a huge plain called La Mesa (2168 m) which it shares with Lumbreras de Cameros. The second highest point, which gives its name to the mountain range, is the Cebollera peak (2141 m), shared with the municipalities of El Royo and Sotillo del Rincón. The town centre is 1072 m above sea level.mar.
